The local Walmart was out of Pennzoil Platinum 5w30, I bought SynPower for $1 more.
does not the oil chosen have more to do with who watches nascar that weekend (which varies by location)? most folks dont give a hoot about UOA, TBN, or what type of base the oil is.... they see a brand flash across the screen and thats what they'll buy. if wally puts all Valvoline on the shelves then most likely people buying oil there are buying Valvoline....
I saw Q/S Q Power Syn here in 5W20 for 17.00 in 5 quart jugs..All by SOPUS. Mightn't this be PP in a QS jug for all practical purposes?

No. They're different.
The specs on Quaker State Horse Power 5W-20 are actually better than the Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 if you ask me.
Once my Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 is gone, I'm switching to the Quaker State.

Lower pour point is nice, and the lower MRV viscosity should help during the winter, making the oil easier to pump (less strain on the battery and starter). I wish the CCS was tested at the same temperature so I could compare those, but I bet the Quaker State Q Horsepower would edge out the Platinum.
Those are the only real things that the Quaker State Q Horsepower seems to have in its favor over the PP. I would love to see a VOA so I could compare additive levels, though. PP may very well have more calcium.
