I've seen threads where PU has left the shelves of some Walmarts. I went to my local Walmart this past weekend to buy it for the Aspen. I know Walmart prices are all over the place, but mine had jugs of PU for $25, and PP for $23.50. Who wouldn't pay the extra $1.50? There wasn't a lot of difference between individual quart prices of PP and PU either. I found that odd. A few weeks ago PP was $20.50? I ended up buying the PU jug + 2 qts of PU for a total of $38.94+tax, and I felt good about it. I also added my last 10oz of SLOB to the Hemi (I won't tell my dealer about "oil additives" when she blows).

I doubt PU is the new PP. There just wasn't enough market for PU. There wasn't enough product distinction between Plat and Ultra to necessitate the price difference.

Now this isn't with Pennzoil only, but the other brands have similar issues as well. Only thing that is making Mobil 1 Extended Performance stay on shelves i the name which has a "stronger" presence. Our opinion on which name plate is stronger means nothing when majority of the populace is fed by word of mouth. Mobil 1 is good, but so are other brands.
 
Originally, when PU was $28, and PP 20.50, I would agree. However, now at a $1.50 difference, I think PU negates PP.
 
It negates it why? PU is hardly available anymore at Walmart. Its on sale at $25 to clear out any left over inventory. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't.
 
We have four WM's in our area. Only one has any 5 qt PU containers on the shelf. Other three have had empty PU shelves for about two weeks.
 
For all intents and purposes, PU is a Fail.

Unless you own a Ferrari and 10w30 PU (or 5w30 PU) is OK for it, as Site Banner suggests.

Thought Ferraris liked 40-wt or better, thu smaking me say "OK!" to the new PU banner. Must be the new engine. Some even like 10W-60! So if PU is ok with you there..... More power to ya. I am not so brave.

Isnt it, though? At least somewhat? WalMart said "PU Fails, so bye." Why wouldnt Pennzoil think about how to market, or at least present and distribute it, better?

I agree that PU the Oil will likely still be made. Question is, for how long.

Not speculating its going "away". Stating that it isn't being offered in a majority of Walmarts(where the $25 price is). It is still being sold in stores like Autozone, Advance, Pepboys, Strauss. But Walmart isn't/ or is scaling back for the time being.

Other threads and some posts within this thread have implied that the poster believes it is "discontinued".

It must be the most heavily advertised "discontinued" oil on the planet, if that's the case.
 
Our WM shelves were stocked well with PU. So, either no one is buying them, or they keep stocking them. Remember when Edge first hit the shelf at $32+ for a jug? Everyone thought it was crazy. It's still around, and plentiful. If it survived, I believe PU can and will.

Its not advertised as being "Discontinued," lol.

Why did you skip over mine?
 
At my Walmart she shelf space is literally 3 shelves, 1 row(think 1 5qt jug with a few behind it on 3 shelves for different weights). It shrunk from its multiple jugs on the 3 shelves.

It's mostly M1 dominating the shelf space, then Quaker State conventional, Pennzoil conventional, Valvoline conventional. Then synthetics.
 
PP will be the top end pennzoil product at Walmart...PU not selling well...my local Walmart manager said they will not restock any more 5QT PU when it is gone...they have 3 jugs left...she said it has taken over 9 months to sell the initial PU 5QT jug display...single bottles to be stocked "for now"
 
PU won't 'disappear' from PZ's offerings.

PZ spent way too much time and development money on this oil to just ditch it. It will just not be sold in discount stores anymore.
 
I agree, PU wont disappear. One of three things will happen (in order of least likely to most likely):

1. PP will be discontinued to keep it from cannibalizing PU sales.

2. The "Ultra" name will be discontinued, but the same oil will be sold as a "new, improved formula" Pennzoil Platinum.

3. Shell limps along with the current situation of having PP and PU competing with each other for sales and shelf space.
 
I did not mean to imply that PU would be discontinued. It seems that Walmart may be "phasing it out" My local manager said that shelf space is at a premium and the 5QT Ultra initial display from 9-10 months ago has still not fully sold...The display is now Castrol....the 2 Ulta bottles are near the PP display...
