Here is the oil info from Audi (Owns VW and uses the same 1.8 Turbo motor as in my Passat in some Audi Models.
Viscosity
Engine oil is manufactured in different viscosities to meet the
requirements of various engines. The correct viscosity grade
for your engine also depends on climatic or seasonal conditions
where you drive. You can use oil with a viscosity of SAE 5W40
across all temperature ranges for normal driving conditions.
However, if that grade is not available, you can use SAE 5W-30
or SAE 0W-40, as long as it meets one of the Audi oil quality
standards specified to the left. Because Audi approved engine oil
may not be available everywhere, we recommend that you always
carry with you an extra quart (liter).
For more information about engine oil that has been approved for
your vehicle, please contact either your authorized Audi Dealer or
Audi Customer Relations at 1 (800) 822-2834, or visit our Web site at
audiusa.com. The Web site can provide you with a current list of oils
(manufacturers, brand names, etc.) that conform to Audi oil standards.

Service
Oil Quality
All Audi engines must always use engine oils that conform to the applicable Audi Oil Quality Standard. No other
engine oils may be used. This also applies when topping off engine oil between services.
Recommendation for Customers
It is recommended that the customer always carry a spare quart/liter of engine oil that conforms to the applicable
Audi Oil Quality Standard in case the engine oil needs topping off while on the road. The spare quart/liter of oil
should be stored in its original container, securely closed in the luggage compartment. Ensure the container is
securely stowed.
Note:
Use of the wrong oil may damage the engine. Damage caused by using the wrong oil will not be covered by the
applicable vehicle warranties.

Below are the lists of engine oils that currently meet Audi Oil Quality Standards VW 501 01, VW 502 00, VW 505
00, VW 505 01 and 504 00/507 00.
The first four lists of products are comprised of oils that meet Audi Oil Quality Standard VW 501 01, VW 502
00, VW 505 00, VW 505 01, or VW 504 00/507 00 and are generally available in the North American market at
