Just a heads up for all you die hard vw/audi guys. Found out from a buddy of mine who works for vw as of Jan 1st 2025. Volkswagen/Audi is switching back to Castrol oil as their main oil supplier from Mobil oil who is their current supplier which they have been using for a few years now.

Reviewers might start calling those engines more refined since they're likely to be a touch quieter than before. I recall Castrol making my engines the quietest sounding. Every time I ran Castrol 5/10w-30 in my old trucks before switching to 40 grade they were near silent at hot idle when others would make them a bit more audible. The least quiet was mobil super 5w30 but I didn't think much of it since it wasn't clattery or anything. Hot oil pressure was about the same.

According to the parts numbers on my Audi service order Castrol has always been used for all oil changes even during the Mobil days.
G-052-167-SO which is Castrol bulk 5W40....I think. Either way it doesn't matter, I do yearly changes and drive very little.

I mean it’s a marketing agreement and devoid of any technical relevance. If true, all it means is somebody paid someone more money than someone else.
100% agree. But for many (most people, actually), it's newsworthy. There are diehard fans of both these brands despite the technical numbers.
