VW 508 and api sp spec for lspi

Thx for all the replies, the consensus seems to be that lspi isn't an issue to be concerned about here, which is valuable to know. re: 508 vs 504 spec I've done an oil analysis on my last 508 oil change and blackstone reports all is normal, although I do see the occasional small silver spec in the oil filter at 50000 km. Perhaps will try 504 spec for the next oil change just for ****s and giggles.

Thx much

Calcium has a far greater influence on LSPI than ZDDP does, at least when Ph is in the typical range of 600-900 ppm. The euro oils have only ~100 ppm more Ph than the API oils, which won't make a big difference.
What is Ph? Do you mean phosphorus, "P"?

Your UOAs likely will look identical w/r to wear metal rates between 504 and 508 so keep that in mind.

Why 0w30? Driving around polar circle? 0w30 has more VII than 5w30, more VII means more shearing. It could fall faster out of grade and leave nasty deposits..

Not always. A better base stock that gives the 0W winter performance and can also require less VM.

Plus it's available at Walmart so it's easier to find and less expensive than the 5W-30.
