The 2021 Santa Fe says SN+ or above and recommends only 0w20 on the N/A engine and 0w30 on the TGDI engine.

This thread is regarding vw spec. Z start a new one if y wanna talk about hyundai

Went to canadian tire today .

The castrol 5w40 is 502/505
The mobil 1 esp 5w30 is 504 and 507

S5 engine sticker says 502 and 504 no oil weight
Q5 says 0w20
I'm curious is the factory fill for Canadian Destint s5 5w40?

I think I'll be switching to ESP for the S5 since seems to have more cleaning and sludge!?!

Here's a chart that may help others

I don't know exactly what came from the factory. At some point they switched from 502 to 504, but I don't know exactly when that was. Sometime in 2018 I believe.

They have been using 504 in Europe for about 15 years. Problem was here in North America, the fuel we had (higher sulfur) was not very friendly to that oil. The fuel in North America switch to ultra low sulfur in early 2017, so now they can use 504 here as well. 502 is mostly outdated now. Mobil 1 ESP is very good oil.

The 0w20 508 best bet right now for us Canadians is either dealer oil (Mobil) or the LiquiMoly 6200 from Amazon.

I noticed mobil 1 also has fs euro 0w40. But it's 502/505. I take it the esp would be better by spec....

504 is cleaner. It won't cause as many issues with carbon buildup, or soot on the tail pipes and things like that.

The 0w40 Mobil again is very good oil and has been a staple for a long time. But for more modern engines of the last ten years or so (directed injected) I believe 504 is a better choice.

You can find Valvoline 508 on Amazon for a decent price as well...

Good luck. Didn't know you guys had such limited choices.

Your Q5, if it has the 2.0 turbo engine, calls for 0-20 508/509. Go to dealer to get it; made by Mobil 1 AFAIK. I bought some this week at dealer in N.C. for $7.13 per quart.

Can I or should I send 508/509 in the s5 that's calls for 502/504 or should I avoid this since I'm higher mileage??
I assume 508/509 has more sludge cleaning

Why would you assume that?

And why would you use an oil with an approval different than what’s specified by the automaker? VAG has specifically stated that 508 00 approval is not back-specified to those models not listed for the approval. Does your owner’s manual state that either is acceptable?
