Planning on pouring a bottle of VSOT to beefen up fresh valvoline 10w40 dino on my supercharged '93 Ford Mustang. Is VSOT worth it?

Yea, I agree. It's alright to use it for this "fresh" Valvoline, but I wouldn't leave it in too long.

I had a 14-16 PSI Turbo and had some issues because I wasn't using the right oil and it was low a couple times.

Do you kick yours in boost on occasion or more often??

Get some darn good Turbo/Super charger approved oil in there.

Got a small stash of it on sale last year. One thing I noticed was how terribly thick it was on a cold day, but thinned quite a bit on a warm day. Made me wonder if it wasn't full of VII ?
Just used some for assembly lube on a bike engine and it sure is some slippery stuff for as thick as it is. 1st few times I hit the starter the sprag gear kept spinning , and spinning for a second or two after the starter was released. Never had that happen before with other products. Not that it means anything, just an observation.

Used to be one of the better and more useful oil additives, but has been dummied down.
Might as well just get a good oil by itself, now.

Thanks jazztrumpet216, wileyE and mechtech2.

I guess I will keep an out for the old red bottle of it. You never know. I may find it in some small town somewhere during my travels.

I've never seen VSOT in the red bottle.

I do recall a red bottle Valvoline supplement that contained seal conditioners. That stuff was different from gray-silver container VSOT.... which was always gray-silver in container color.

oops. Got my wires crossed there I guess. Do you go by date codes or what to know you are getting the old good VSOT with molly? What dates or bottle label differences do you go by?

The old red bottle stuff was MLEP(MaxLife Engine Protector). I used it for a little while before switching over to VSOT.
I still use VSOT in small doses on every OC. My car just seems to run better since I began using it, so I figured "Why stop now?". I prefer to mix it w/MaxLife dino, but I've used it with other dino oils as well. My prefered mixing method is to warm up the bottle in boiling water on the stove and also warm up a 4qt jug of PCMO in my heater room...then combine and mix them. The VSOT seems to pour & mix much better when hot.

I can get the MLEP locally, is it good stuff?

From what I've gathered from some archived posts, MLEP was/is similar to VSOT in additive levels but used a dino-based carrier.
