I have a 1995 F53 33ft Winnebago Vectra with the 7.5L 460 V8. I picked up Mobil 5w-50 and at the same time found 6qt VR1 SAE 60 on clearance too. The Mobil will be going in this summer, thought it would perfect for the big block hailing all that weight around. I wasn’t able to find much information on SAE 60 oil, No VOA. Does anyone use this stuff? With what application? Would you mix it? What do you use in your Motorhome?

Michigan Summers, 200-400miles a month

Dragsters use that stuff and change out after the run or burn off excess fuel in a kettle. Not even a Big Bore Single would use that heavy. 50 at the most, but usually a straight 40 in Enduro’s.
Wow, that’s why there isn’t many posts about this stuff. Do people mix SAE 60 with a lower viscosity oil that you know of? Does it raise the Winter rating?

I wouldn’t use it in anything with cats. It’s a high zinc formula and I would think too thick for your application.

Perhaps as a top off in a pinch or a beater mower oil. That’s it.
I couldn’t pass up 6 quarts for $13 and I’ve heard the flat tappet cam in the 7.5l likes the high zinc.

I think your right, I don’t see there is an application I can use this for. People must use this for Motorcycles and Racing/Dragging.

Thank you everyone for your help. Very excited to use the Mobil 5w-50, I’ve heard nothing but great things in the V8 460.

Clearances, clearances, clearances.

I’ve only run Japanese Singles where tolerances are known to have been much tighter throughout periods 50’s to the age of modern high tech machining.

I wouldn’t enjoy kicking over 60 or 70 grade.

Best of luck and enjoy that oil for some use.

Thanks man! It will be put on the self for now.

Yeah, kicking that without an electric start would be rough.

My old 1979 Yamaha XS750 Special Triple Cylinder loved the 20w-50. What a sweet bike that was. I dug up an old picture of the night I picked it up.

That’s cool. Hopefully you still have it.

I parked my Motard Honda 650r I did a 3 1/2 1100mi BC trip a few years back. What fun and lack of dangerous 2 1/2 ton cars over there. I’ll ride again, just not where I’m at. I can’t say I’d ever sell it.

Only regret was starting out with t6 5w-40. Should have went 15w-40 or straight 40. But oils, temps, options were really limited up there to start with at the end of May. Lesson learned.

You can use the sae 60 after an oil change if put in it while the engine is hot and drive across the country without shutting the engine off. Now you can change it with the proper spec.

What's the oil capacity on that 460? (internet says 6qts, but idk for sure, so school me) I wouldn't use that SAE60 for full oil capacity, but I'd definitely substitute a quart of it with normal oil change. Ideally 5qts of Valvoline VR1 10W30 plus 1qt of Valvoline VR1 SAE60. Should be a healthy summer blend for that big boy. I don't see a problem of mixing 5qt of M1 5W50 with 1qt VR1 SAE60 either, but I think the VR1+VR1 combo just will have a more similar chemistry.

P.S. I'll give you $15 for the 6qts of VR1 SAE60, if you got no use for it 😉 I'll mix it with some RedLine Racing 50WT and pour it in a Prius

Did Valvoline discontinued their true racing oils? I can't find them on their site anymore. Their SAE 70 Oil for Nitromethane Engines used to be real popular with TF and FC teams.
