Just for fun I was wondering if there were two seperate oils, made by different companies that have been found to contain strikingly similar formulations. Has anyone found this?

PP and Syntec looked very similar to me based on their VOAs (at least add pack wise). Syntec has some Molly, PP a bit more calcium. Both are also hydrocracked group III oils. Base stocks may be a bit different, showing different NOACK, etc. Syntec, with the Molly, may be a little better for wear protection, and PP a little better for cleaning with the extra calcium.

I have a small stash of both that I'm going to run short OCIs on independently over the winter and do UOAs on. After that I have an itch to try blending them though (I'm all about taking a perfectly good oil and trying to break it - my car burns it all right now anyway).

Interesting. Looking at the brand names, then comparing them to the private labels tested separately, Supertech 5W30 is looking very good. Very similar characteristics to QS GB but it has a lower NOACK. In terms of additives they compare well too. QSGB has more boron, Supertech more Molly and less Sulphur. Otherwise pretty similar.

QSGB costs twice here what Supertech does though. Looks like a nice cheap summer dino for moderate OCIs of 5k or less.
