Looking at getting a tiller which has this engine. I looked at manual which states if temperature is over 32 either 10w30 or SAE30 and under 32 5w30 with synthetic allowed and 10w40 will void warranty. Do companies still not recognize 30w is 30w when hot? Just thought I'd share. In Louisiana I will stick to Synthetic 5w30 as temperature gets hot and these engines are air cooled. Any opinions on this engine as I mostly have Briggs.

Those recommendations refer to starting temperature. A 5w30 would definitely be preferable to a straight 30 in temperatures below freezing. Somehow I doubt that it matters where you live.

I have never encountered any OPE that didn’t list 5w30 as recommended or an acceptable alternative in the manual. I think you have a good plan.

I decided against it. I was looking for parts that break which are either back ordered or has to come from China. Decided to get a Troy Bilt with 208cc which is a common engine with availability. The Viper manual had lots of stimulation on no ethanol, only 10w30 etc. With Troy Bilt you run 5w30 synthetic and fuel with up to 15% ethanol. Viper made in China, Troy Bilt in USA.

Troy-Bilt and it's engines are made by MTD. While MTD is based in Ohio, the engines are manufactured over in China.
