people are idiotic, even in today's day and age when camera's are everywhere!

What if the customer had a few bucks laying in there... the tech takes it and the customer instantly reports the missing money to the service manager. How would the tech explain himself?

This guy probably lost his job and over a couple quarters?!

The owner complained to the service manager and was ignored.

He put the video in for the next service. He took the tape straight to the local media and sent a letter to the dealer owner.

The owner fired the service manager and the 3 techs involved.

Wouldn't have happened without the video evidence and the media.

NPR had a story of a graduate student who wanted to see how people react if they think you are a deviant with respect to taking advantage of you. The guy left a bunch of change on the passenger seat and went through various car washes (putting some dirt on the car after each wash). When there was a dirty magazine on the seat also, they stole more money from the loose change every time.

The moral calculation there is hilarious.

"This guy left a porn mag on the front seat, so I'm going to take more quarters than I usually would."

Given the tech went after the guy's prescriptions and was licking his fingers afterwards indicates he might be a pill junkie. It happens in all walks of life, and could lead to sticky fingers.

I had my coin holder emptied at a local Chrysler dealer. I had just filled it. exactly two of each coin remained when I got my car back. the service manager tried to explain it away by saying his lube techs were lower paid - his normal techs wouldn't take it. and offered a free oil change. I told him I'm glad they left the AK in the trunk alone.

Thanks to Ford dealer down here in South Florida I am missing about 300 bucks in cassettes.

In the N.Y.C. area I had my cars serviced at Manhatten Ford and Town Motors [1985-2002]..Nothing ever went missing.

Wait, isn't that something like 1,200 cassettes? Must have had an enormous glove box.

My friend does work on government vehicles. He found MP-5s, full-auto M4, bullet proof vests, tear gas launchers, and 2 gym bags (one filled with porno, the other filled with sex toys) in the trunk.

I had a lot of them in my trunk.

Techs are known for 2 less-than-desirable things: missing change & changing the radio station. So are porters/car-jockeys...ever since the dawn of the automotive age.
