VEGEMITE: very tasty

My brother who lives in NZ brings me some Sanitarium Marmite when he comes back in France and i much prefer it over the traditional Marmite from UK available at every store. How does Vegemite compare?
I never warmed up to Marmite or Promite. Vegemite is salty and has the strongest flavor. Marmite has a bit sweetness added and is stickier. Promite is even sweeter.

Marmite is thinner and sweeter...maybe, I don't like it and have always used lots of Vegemite.

Brewer's yeast fines, as I understand it, that is, it's the yeast-left overs from the bottom of the vats used for brewing beer. Oddly enough, unlike the beer it comes from, it's actually good for you.
The yeast supply for Vegemite comes from Carlton & United or Cooper’s in Oz. I think it’s made outside of Melbourne.

Kraft used to own the rights for it. Now, it’s back in Australian hands. I remember visiting my uncle as a kid in Queensland and having it for the first time. I was disgusted. I’m sure as an adult with a more cultured palate, it’ll be better if I do go back.

How do you lot eat it, on what, how much?
It's great on buttered, toasted dark bread bread like rye and on toasted toast bread, also with soft-boiled eggs, and as a flavor enhancer in stews. It goes well with cheese and avocado sandwiches. Someone recently made me think it might be good with just avocado. Start with a very small amount and slowly work your way up.

Children have a very sensitive taste buds. I hated spinach, kale, and beets. I used to think those veggies tasted the way soil and cow dung smelled. Now I love them. The taste that as a child I likened to dirt I now perceive as earthy. With age our sense of taste changes and dulls. That's probably why many old people love spicy, salty and sweet foods. It's what they can taste.

Ah yes, heavily buttered white toasted bread is the go to for aussies, not too much though just a few smidgens.

Good evening folks. So I got a early birthday gift of 12 VEGEMITE containers. Had some Italian bread toasted with some on each slice. Very good tasting is all I will say. That’s just my opinion. I see why members SR5 and maybe Shannow like this food staple

Isn't there a band that has a song about this?

We've been eating mostly vegan at home for a couple of months. Coincident with that, I found an ancient jar of Marmite in the cupboard, and tried it. My mother used to eat it when I was a child, and I thought it was disgusting.

Times, and tastes, change. I finished that jar off quickly, and have been going through it like crazy since then. I know it's an acquired taste, but wow, I've been absolutely craving it. I pour a bit of olive oil on ancient-grains toast, and then slather on Marmite generously. Utterly delicious (to me, though likely few others).

I've been wanting to try Vegemite too, but it doesn't appear that anyone carries it here. EBay.ca will bring it in from Oz, the UK, or Japan, but with exorbitant associated shipping costs.

I can get Marmite at two local grocery stores, so no problem with supply.

Did a bit of research - Vitamin B12 is generally only available from animal products, but the Marmite/Vegemite yeast-based products are an exception. They're very rich in all the B vitamins, including B12.

Love it :) If you can get your hands on English Crumpets over there (google them), vegemite goes great with them. They are round with lots of holes on top, so plenty of butter and a good smear of vegemite and you're set. English muffins are good as well
Oh we got crumpets.

Cost Plus World Market carries it. You can also buy it on Amazon.
