Vavoline or Havoline 10W-30... Which is best?

It's like splitting hairs. The best one is the oil that gives the best UOA results for your engine and your driving profile.

I'd say Valvoline if you're going for anti-corrosion on your engine (high sodium);

Havoline if you're wanting a tiny bit more Moly for coating your engine for anti-friction.

List out the VOA numbers between the two and that'll answer your question.

Both will do fine but Havoline was gutted in the SN formula, Valvoline is not overwhelming on paper until you start reading all the excellent UOA's, I'd pick Valvoline of the two.

There actually gas tractors (antique fords) and newer lawn mowers. Sounds like theres not much difference though.

I prefer the Havoline, since Chevron controls production all the way throught the process. Refining, blending, producing the add pack, packaging, everything. I may be a little paranoid, but Valvoline could get some bad product from a supplier and not realize it until it's too late.
I've always had excellent service from Chevron products. Valvoline, not so much, but that was years ago and probably not relevant now.

I'm a PYB fan, but of the 2 listed, I'd buy the Havoline.
I use to be a big Valvoline fan, but after joining BITOG it seems that the TBN is a little low, and the adpack seems weak on paper.
Granted many people have seen great uoa's with it. But it's just not for me. Plus it's the second most expensive conv. oil at Walmart.
