I've always wondered why BMW's website says Valvoline SynPower 5w-30 meets the BMW LL-01 spec. So, I e-mailed Valvoline and asked them(I also gave them the link to the site).

Here is their response...

-SynPower Full Synthetic 5W-30 MST is the only current Valvoline oil that meets BMW LL-01 in North America other than SynPower Full Synthetic 5W-30 MXL This seems to be a misprint on the BMW site you have forwarded. We will consult with the creator of this site to correct their information. Sorry for the confusion.-

I forgot to ask why BMW's site didn't have the 5w-40 MST listed..

I wonder if Valvoline will consult with the creator of the website..

Because Synpower 5w-40 meets LL-04 spec, not LL-01. The BMW site you linked to only seems to be focusing on LL-01, hence no mention of Synpower 5w-40. That's just my guess.

Synpower 5w-40 would be a good choice for BMW diesel engines though which require LL-04 oil.
