Valvoline Restore and Protect - does it work or is it marketing?

Regarding the Ring Free, in a GDI engine the gasoline doesn't pass over the rings to clean them.
It cleans the piston face, at a minimum the top of the top ring, the combustion chamber, the valve faces if GDI, the intake stem too if PI. It's popular on Hyundai forums where guys are using it to help with their oil burning.
Don't tell them it doesn't work in a 4-stroke. Even Yamaha recommends it for 4-stroke outboards and inboards to keep rings clean.

It's pretty commonly reported that people think their engine is much quieter on Valvoline Restore and Protect than other high quality oils, FWIW. It's not just one or two isolated reports.
It might be placebo, but my dad’s 2016 Genesis 3.8 hit 60k miles and I decided to get him Valvoline Restore and Protect as those engines can have consumption issues to prevent future issues… and the idle seems way smoother. Not sure what oil the shop was using before.

After a few changes of Valvoline I noticed my grey beard got darker in color and my appetite got smaller
You should use some Scott shop towels or other version to clean up the drips and stuff you handle not your beard. I would say it may affect the appetite but your in NY and the carcinogens are only an issue in CA.

I don’t normally wipe my grey beard with paper towels …
But, when I do - they will be Scott shop towels …

Yesterday was my first oil change after using Valvoline Restore and Protect. I notice a couple big chunks of something coming out of the oil drain. No I didn't filter it out and look. I was surprised at the increase in oil pressure on the hemi, it never read past the middle of the gauge in all the years I've had it but it is above the middle mark now. I refilled it with more Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w-30 and a new filter. I might cut open the filter just for fun, my guess is it is full of sludge.

If it puts some color back in mine I might start wiping some oil on it. 🤔

Yeah - I’d certainly want to check that filter …

Your oil filter media should answer your question, have a look....I'm running Quaker State Ultimate Protection, in Both 5W30 and 0W20 as per MoCo specifications. Quaker State Ultimate Protection is hard to find these days @ WM, seems to sell out fast....Be care of all the voices on the inter webs these days...

I have a 2013 Toyota Corolla, 1.8L, 260k miles on it.
I was not even going to try it (just basically because everyone was making such a fuss about it).
I did one OCI of 3K and now have about 1,300 miles on the second OCI so far. I am honestly impressed. It is quieter and consumption has already decreased.
Too many people are reporting Valvoline Restore and Protect works for it not to work . I believe more actual before and after photos will appear - especially before and after piston and oil ring photos (albeit not cheap or easy to do for the average person).

Thanks, learn something new every day. What dosage/procedure do you recommend for Ring Free? I've searched for hours and can't figure it out.

Well, there's so much information out there that says it works I actually put it in my wife's 2020 Hyundai Elantra for the first time this morning. 77,000+ miles and seems to be burning/using some oil. Hoping to clean that up some over the next few oil changes.

Interesting, thanks. I hadn't seen posts about higher consumption from other guys with Valvoline Restore and Protect.

My man, I think you're getting that confused with intake valves on a GDI engine. The fuel does not go over the intake valves to wash them which is why they can get so gunked up.

I've maintained the 2007 toyota camry 2.4 2AZ-FE in my sig since new. Up until about 315,000 miles it got Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20 every 5000 miles. Doing this, it eventually got to the point of burning 1 to 1.5 quarts every 5000 miles.

It took four 5000 mile oci's of Valvoline Restore and Protect to make a difference with this engine but it certainly made a difference. The car now has 353,000 miles and it burns a very miniscule, negligent amount of oil every 5000 miles. This was not a dirty engine, it wasn't perfect but if you care to look in my history, I had the valve cover off a couple years ago and snapped some pictures. I know it doesn't mean a terrible lot, but the oil does stay cleaner longer which does indicate better cylinder sealing with not as much blow-by and carbon making it to the crank case.

Have you heard about this new oil called Valvoline Restore and Protect? May not have. Kind of under the radar still.

Seems to be a pretty common outcome with this oil and viscosity. Haven't seen anything good on here about Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy. Glad you got it cleaned up with Valvoline Restore and Protect.
