Valvoline Restore and Protect - does it work or is it marketing?

Does Valvoline Restore and Protect work as well as most people say or is it all about the marketing? Also, would it be an acceptable substitute for GM’s Dexos branded oil? I’m running 0w20 in my Chevy Silverado 6.2L L86. Any thoughts are appreciated!
What is your goal to use that oil? What year is your vehicle and how many miles on it?
What most people say about Valvoline Restore and Protect?

It's all marketing, don't use it, don't recommend it to anyone. They will rush and buy it all creating supply issues and all us that know it works and use it many vehicles won't be able to find it. Oil issues in other lands affecting supplies. The Valvoline Restore and Protect could be like only wanting Charmin during the great TP hoarding of 2020-2021.

Besides that as everyone said, it is listed and discussed in every other thread.

I have used it 5-6 times, I have no idea if it did anything.....
Was there an oil burning issue that you were trying to maybe correct? Was there a lot of varnish or other you could see through fill hole? Did you cut any filters open to inspect for carbon stuff?

It obviously worked as an engine oil or you would have had other issues. Without knowing why you used it even for yourself you won't know any change in results. If those reasons were a true mechanical issue than no it won't fix that either.

5-6 times for how many miles each time?

Part of me wonders if the users here reporting successes are simply doing short OCIs with a high-quality oil. Wasn't Pennzoil conventional the previous "fixed all my issues" oil of the forum, with it being used the same way?
I don't think so. Otherwise it would be seen with Mobil 1, Pennzoil, etc. There's several examples on here of using high quality oils at ~5k intervals and still having consumption.

Not saying Valvoline Restore and Protect is a magic potion, but it has more than proven to be as good as they claim.

There was a thread not long ago where someone thought this was some magic oil that made their car quieter instantly. Well they also went up from a 20 weight to a 30 weight at the same time. Likely why it sounded quieter. Worst part is people jumped up quickly to say it was the Restore and Protect that did it….

I have two Ford Escapes, both the same model with 2.5L. The 5w-30 Valvoline Restore and Protect is quieter than the 5W-30 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in the other one. Probably doesn't mean much.

Interesting!

Good Observation!

Good Observation again!

Were these new Members that said this? I hope there were no Moderators that said this.

Here, another Valvoline Restore and Protect customer testimony:https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/valvoline-restore-and-protect.381635/page-185#post-7558766

However, Valvoline Restore and Protect is not a Dexos rated/approved oil. Yes, I think it's much better oil than GM Dexos branded oil. If you decide to use it, I would get the 5W-30.

My GDI car burned Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-20 at a rate of 1qt per 1,000miles. Before Valvoline Restore and Protect I burned Pennzoil 5W-20 syn blend at 1qt per 3,000 miles, and after the one OCI with Valvoline Restore and Protect it went back to burning Pennzoil at a rate of 1qt per 3,000 miles. I'm going to give Valvoline Restore and Protect another try when it's available in 10W-30.

If my car weren't GDI I'd throw some Yamalube Ring Free in the gas tank instead

It's pretty commonly reported that people think their engine is much quieter on Valvoline Restore and Protect than other high quality oils, FWIW. It's not just one or two isolated reports.
