Valvoline Restore and Protect - does it work or is it marketing?

I've maintained the 2007 toyota camry 2.4 2AZ-FE in my sig since new. Up until about 315,000 miles it got Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20 every 5000 miles. Doing this, it eventually got to the point of burning 1 to 1.5 quarts every 5000 miles.

It took four 5000 mile oci's of Valvoline Restore and Protect to make a difference with this engine but it certainly made a difference. The car now has 353,000 miles and it burns a very miniscule, negligent amount of oil every 5000 miles. This was not a dirty engine, it wasn't perfect but if you care to look in my history, I had the valve cover off a couple years ago and snapped some pictures. I know it doesn't mean a terrible lot, but the oil does stay cleaner longer which does indicate better cylinder sealing with not as much blow-by and carbon making it to the crank case.

You're going to make some Mobil 1 fanboys(girls) mad with that statement.

They claim users of Mobil 1 don't burn oil, their low-tension oil control/piston rings are absolutely clean with no carbon build-up & don't need to switch to Valvoline Restore and Protect.

Do you plan to continue with Valvoline Restore and Protect?
There's still some debate if the 4 shorter OCIs at severe service schedule are sufficient as Valvoline originally stated normal service schedule, which usually means double the mileage; hence the number of OCIs should be increased.

No plan of switching. Why would I swap out a fully formulated motor oil with proven capabilities for cleaning rings and assumingly keeping them clean?

Because unlike you nobody reads the datasheet or talking points that it is a fully formulated oil suitable for use from the first oil change to the crusher. They jump to conclusions and think it's a flush. Reading can be taught, comprehension not so much.

IDK either, but many BITOGers have said they're only going to do/did 4 OCIs, got the desired result & switched back.

🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️
I'm even doubling down. I'm so impressed with the oil I have already switched the 21 camry and 21 silverado to Valvoline Restore and Protect. Both vehicles still have low miles, no oil burning, but I switched them anyway because it will prevent any ring coking in the future.
