Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF

Well if the Valvoline Restore and Protect says +4 on a data sheet from Valvoline, I'd personally have no concerns.

Also I very much doubt you'd do damage short term. If you don't like how it shifts, redo it. I also put a pan with drain on my non-profit's '12 545RFE. I got 2 gallons out letting it drip overnight with no pan installed when I just did the service. I used an UltraPower pan from RA = inexpensive and I think it's just Dorman with a different label (same part #)

Before this, years ago, I used the Cam2 +4 (seems mostly NLA). So it's now got a mix of old Cam2 and two fresh gallons O'Reilly Global. 191k on the odometer with 5.7 HemiView attachment 315704

And I agree if something is under warranty, maybe best to stay with a dedicated +4
Good advice, thanks! I did pick up a Dorman pan with a drain which looks like identical to your pan. Valvoline does list it as +4 compatible on the sheet so I will give it a try. Like you say if it causes problems I can simply drain it out.

HPL actually recommends HPL Green ATF even though it’s LV range rather than ULV.

I’ve been using Green CC in my F150 for a little over 30k miles now and it shifts better than when I got it with only 24k total.
That's interesting. I've got 30k on my 23 3.5 ecoboost and I plan on doing a drain and fill this spring. I plan on making a thread about recommendations. I wonder what makes HPL Green more suitable than HPL teal?

You’d have to ask Dave specifics of why, but you can find his posts here saying they run it in all the 10R80s of their personal trucks.

All I know is mine is more consistent on shift quality since I swapped in the Green CC.

I run the maxlife multi in my zf 8 speed ..... suck pan dry with 12v pump through the fill hole every spring ..approx 5qts ........... thinking about a ppe pan this spring we'll see .......... transmission loves that fluid
How many miles have you put on the car since you added the maxlife?

I probably wouldn't use it. I've serviced my transmission myself every 25k miles and it looks good and clean. I don't think changing my Toyota fluid for anything else is futile.
Does your WS fluid look "bad" when you change it? For some reason it always looks dirty when we change customers even when it's in the 30-50) range. Just curious. I own one Toyota, a 22 Taco and I've been running Valvoline Extended Protection in it and it seems to do very well. That of course is an Asian RWD transmission. Don't know too much about the FWD transmissions.

Mine is 16 years old so no warranty, but even with confirmation from valvoline that it is atf 4 compatible I'm still sort of leery of using it. I have 3 gallons of it in my garage but can't work up the nerve to use it. I don't want to be the first guinea pig to the experiment 😂
Put it on! The chances of something going badly are very slim. I would if I had some.

Did first full service at 75,000 then sucked pan out at 90k and again at 108k ...now at 123,000 thinking ppe pan in the spring ..... transmission shifts beautiful with maxlife atf no reason to change .......also run in transmissionfer case since 65k changed at 100k

Not this weekend, but next weekend I'll probably tackle the fluid and filter change.

I did replace the atf4 in my power steering with the Valvoline Restore and Protect atf about 400 miles ago and it's been fine. Needed to change it anyway and I thought I'd try it out before committing it to the trans. It's been fine so far.

No, the fluid still has color as apposed to pitch black. I do it every 20-30 miles at the most.
Like everyone else, I'm trying to achieve too achieve 500K miles and then some.

I've heard of people running MaxLife without issue. Unsure of how long they ran or owned the vehicle for.
Been using Valvoline MaxLife in my old odyssey since the OEM fluid left so much silt on the plug magnet. 100k roughly what both red and blue jug Valvoline MaxLife atf. No issues. The blue jug is lower viscosity and matches Honda ATF Z1.

I just did a drain and fill of my zf 8 yesterday, filling with maxlife. We'll see how it goes. I wanted to try the new Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF, but emailed Valvoline and they said it likely won't be available in canada for another 6-12 months.

I put in valvoline extended ATF with lubegard platnium got about 6-7k on it, shifting smooth. Might put this in when I drain and fill at 30k
I just did Valvoline Extended Protection + Lubegard Red. I thought Platinum was more of a "fluid transformer". The EP is spec'd for just about everything, don't see a need to add more than the Red. or were you using for aGM 6-8-10 transmisison issues?

I've had an alert set on RA for seemingly time eternal. They still don't have it. I don't understand why AutoZone and NAPA can get it but O'Reilly and none of RA's warehouses can. I don't know if it's production capacity, demand, marketing agreements....something else?

I am assuming it is just a supply/demand issue as they just released it. But who knows? If it is available on RA by spring, i may order and have it shipped to canada so i can use it for my second drain/fill.
