Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF

I posted the full vehicle compatibility list for Valvoline Restore and Protect atf that I got from valvoline, but it is waiting for moderator approval for some reason. It looks like it has quite comprehensive coverage. Hopefully the post is approved soon so you can all see it.

If a Ford dealer attempts to get SP their own system directs them to LV. This has been confirmed by our @bdcardinal
Didn't know that. I do know that both of my local Ford dealers refuse to work on anything older than a 2016 model year. They claim the system can't access anything older.

I followed up on my email asking them for a source on the claim it was atf 4 compatible, and they sent me this list of what it is compatible with.

Interesting! I wonder how closely related this is to O'Reilly's Global. I just realized the Global also claims ULV compliance for Mercon. The Dex was a bit more cryptic.

Compatibility is shown here under Product Bulletin
https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...uid-global-1-gallon/oro0/global1?q=Global+atf

I just dumped it into '12 545RFE (ATF+4). Shifts fine, FWIW

The system thing is a lie. @bdcardinal can see much older stuff, but doesn't mean he can actually obtain it (out of stock, discontinued etc)

Our local dealers also have a 10 year threshold for service. It doesn't make much sense here in the NOT-RUST belt but I'm sure indys appreciate it. Plus I support the right of independent businesses to set their own rules, even if they seem arbitrary and capricious. The free market will either support said business practices, or they'll flounder and sink.

They claim Oasis can't identify the vin on my Taurus. At my local GM dealer , their system literally says on the screen General Motors LLC does not recognize your vin on my C1500.

Interesting, I think that's a product I'd pass on, especially since I maintain my transmissions.
Agreed, me too. I've had upwards of over 40 cVT fluid drains and one pan drop so this would not be something that would be on my radar. Plus Im willing to bet Redline Non Slip PAO Cvt Fluid it would be tough to be from a performance aspect which is what everyone wants along with reliability and probably one of the most boring transmission applications to ever be put in an automobile. Essentially I need every bit of help i can get performance wise and cleanliness

What year is your Taurus. At some point they do cutoff OASIS, I can only access the workshop manual going back to 1992MY. Just like key codes only go back 10 years to the production date of the vehicle.

And yes SP is obsolete and replaced by Mercon LV. Just had this go-around with a customer a couple weeks ago.

The viscosity at 40 & 100 it's kind of on the thin side. I haven't checked for complete accuracy but I don't think it looks very much different than their cVT fluid which also is quite on the thin side also. I don't really think it's anything new, my guess is they've probably already had this out for a while just in a different colored blue bottle and they are changing the bottle so they can hog up more shelf space kind of like going to AutoZone and seeing they have both brake fluid and hydraulic clutch fluid right next to each other when essentially it's the same fluid. Kind of like how bud Light and Busch Light were. Now we all know that Bud Light uses rice and Busch Light uses corn but my guess is there is probably not too much difference and if we look at the old transmax and then we look at the new aTF cVT fluid my inkling is that they have very very similar specs and are now interchanged with each other.

My Taurus says 1998 on the Title , but the VIN says 1999.

The 10th digit tells the year. V is 97, W is 98, X is 99, Y is 2000. We always go by VIN and then use production date as needed for parts identification.

When we ask for the last 8, that first digit tells us right away. But for some reason people only want to give the last 4 or think that their VIN is like a Social Security number. Not you, just saying in the 18 years I have been doing this, it is an odd trend worldwide.

Mine is a 99 then. Just checked the vin on the dash and it shows a X for the 10th digit. I was told it was a 98 when I bought it.

As far as I've seen for Ford 10R80's, the ULV options are:
Motorcraft ULV
Amsoil ULV (pretty recent)
HPL Teal
Triax ULV
Valvoline ULV (blue bottle)

I'm sure there are others out there, but those seem to be the popular options discussed. However, most people stick with Motorcraft and do drain and fills frequently.
HPL actually recommends HPL Green ATF even though it’s LV range rather than ULV.

I’ve been using Green CC in my F150 for a little over 30k miles now and it shifts better than when I got it with only 24k total.

Considering we’ve been told for years that ATF+4 is a completely different add pack than what normal ATF is, I’d hold off on dumping this into any Chryslur or Dodgy product under warranty.
Mine is 16 years old so no warranty, but even with confirmation from valvoline that it is atf 4 compatible I'm still sort of leery of using it. I have 3 gallons of it in my garage but can't work up the nerve to use it. I don't want to be the first guinea pig to the experiment 😂

Give it to your closest neighbor that doesn’t have a Chrodge product. Then stand back and watch lol

For what, EP exclusively? I've used the RP in a 46RE and the O'Reilly Global in a 545RFE. Works fine.

Sorry, new to this site and not up to speed on the lingo. I assume EP is extended protection and RP is restore and protect. I have a 545rfe and 3 gallons of the new Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF. if you say the O'Reilly universal works in the 545rfe then that gives me some confidence to go ahead and use the Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF.

Well if the Valvoline Restore and Protect says +4 on a data sheet from Valvoline, I'd personally have no concerns.

Also I very much doubt you'd do damage short term. If you don't like how it shifts, redo it. I also put a pan with drain on my non-profit's '12 545RFE. I got 2 gallons out letting it drip overnight with no pan installed when I just did the service. I used an UltraPower pan from RA = inexpensive and I think it's just Dorman with a different label (same part #)

Before this, years ago, I used the Cam2 +4 (seems mostly NLA). So it's now got a mix of old Cam2 and two fresh gallons O'Reilly Global. 191k on the odometer with 5.7 Hemi

And I agree if something is under warranty, maybe best to stay with a dedicated +4
