You change the oil every 3k miles on full synthetic so they don't have any time to consume oil.

Not true on my hondas. I use Mobil 1 it consumes more oil vs Castrol Titanium or Pennzoil Platinum. The problem are the piston rings. No oil is gonna help.

I had what I assume was ring issues with my 09 altima, 1/2-3/4 of a quart ever 700-1000k miles. I used kreen, half a quart in the oil and half in the fuel and at 750 miles on a new oil change it took a few ounces so I'm sold. Tbh I wasn't expecting much and I was shocked to say the least. I tried LM motor oil saver, engine flushes and heavier oil and nothing phased it. I still have another quart and may try the purge method on the can when I get time, or might do another 1k run at the end of the oci.

I never check the oil on wifey's 2006 TSX with just shy of 200K.
Just service it every 6K miles, or thereabouts with M1 HM 5w30.

I also service a 2007 TSX with 87K miles; it consumes about 1 quart around 3,500 miles.
It was serviced at quickie lubes until I got it earlier this year.
I am not sure but their syn blend was generally used.

As many of us are, I am curious to see Michael's results.
I can tell you, these 1st gen Acura TSXs are great cars.
Sue can drive any of our cars. She loves her trusty TSX.

Not yet, it has only been about 600 miles since the oil was installed. This car only sees about 7,000 miles/yr.

Munch on this thread if you're getting antsy:

I guess Cummins might partly subsidize the cost of this oil to truckers who run their faulty (ring carbon) ISX15 engines. https://www.thetruckersreport.com/t...sx15-carbon-packing-issues.802458/page-2

According to the MSDS, it's got some pretty exotic base oils, including 50% ester (and I suspect this is a bio-based ester), and 30% PAO. This was developed specifically for Cummins by Valvoline and is only sold at Cummins service centers.
...and sold at https://www.ryderfleetproducts.com by the way.
With all those special chemicals, I'd think it would dissolve garbage well enough.

We used this oil in our fleet of Cummins powered Peterbilts and it works. FWIW we made the switch to Mack. Better engine than Cummins.

Wouldn't' $70 buy a lot of kreen, a solid group III synthetic, and a few filters? I'm not saying PBR doesn't work, but just wondering what's the most cost-effective path.

Might as well actually clean the ringlands out. Not sure other approaches work very well.
I like the fact that one can go from a quart of oil burned in 1,000 miles to about zero!

When I changed my oil to the restore oil I was adamant about making sure the oil level was exactly to the full mark to monitor any usage.

I have used all kinds of oil in this vehicle with the hopes of lowering the usage, from 0w30 AFE, to all 5w30, hm oils, 10w30 hm, finally to 10w40 hm over the course of many years.
This situation is what led me to this wonderful website all those years ago, I just lurked for a very long time reading.

Changing the oil filter every 3,000 miles and topping off as needed may mean you never have to change this stuff. Or just take it 12,000 miles (??).

Probably.
