Valvoline hybrid atf worth it?

I would imagine that the Valvoline Hybrid ATF is suitable for use in Dexron VI and WS non-hybrid applications, just not the other way around. As in you may not want to use Dexron VI or WS in a hybrid application.

Well, Amazon price was great and I found out why. Old stock. Not happy about it. Fluid was manufactured on 4/23. Almost 3 years old already. I know some will say shake it up and it's good to go. But I'm not using something that is already 3 years behind. They have changed the revision/SDS 2 times since then.

I wouldn't be surprised if it gets discontinued.
Still, something is necessary, no? If the hybrids truly need additives for copper windings, I'd think Valvoline would want to be in this market. But, maybe they'll wait 'til the administration swings back the other way. Maybe sales are too low right now. Or they'll just work the "protection" into VNL and we're back to one-fluid-fits-most

Walmart's price was $5 a bottle. Something is going on. Either dumping older stock for new or being discontinued. 2 price drops and stock on shelves is 3+ years old

I like the idea of it but do question if there's really something to it or is it all marketing. Seems like if there was a real need for it other manufacturers would have a similar product.

True. It's the only one advertised for Hybrids. I have 3 months before I do my drain and fill. I would like to use it but I'm not putting something in that's already 3 years old. Not how it should be.

I'm in the same boat. I was wanting to do it already but waiting for the weather to break. Just torn on what to use.

If I was torn on an ATF, I’d go right to amsoil, or check in with @Pablo, verify they have a fluid for your application, spend the extra $2 quart, buy more than you need for multiple drain/fills, and move from the “analysis-paralysis” to “ahh-yes.”

I have been an Amsoil guy for decades. I bought thousands of dollars of there oil the past 25 years. I would like to use their oil but it would like them to come out with their own Hybrid transaxle fluid or specify that their ATL fluid is copper safe. They don't mention anything at all about hybrid transmissions. So I an skeptical.

ATL has been copper/brass corrosion tested as have all Amsoil ATF's. Yes they are yellow metal safe.

I snapped up the last 6 qts of this at my local AAP today.

Its says it is "recommended for the following applications"

Toyota TSHII/Toyota Prius
...
Full Hybrids using Toyota WS

I have 2 Toyotas, one a 2008 Prius and the other a 2009 Camry. They both came with WS from the factory. This should be good for either, or should I only put this in the Prius?

[edit] I very much appreciate the timely info in the thread!

I got 26-ish quarts of this stuff on clearance and will be using it in my 2007 Scion tC's transmission which calls for Toyota WS. Not sure what the current fill is since I bought it used. I'll report back about how the fluid performs.

I have it in the power steering system and it's doing fine so far. It calls for Dexron II or Dexron III ATF.
