This is my first oil analysis. Valvoline 5w-30 High Mileage Synthetic Blend. Red bottle. Concerned about Sodium and Boron. Filled with Toyota coolant. 195k with the v8. Never had a cooling issue. Pretty much babied the thing with 4-5k oil changes. Radiator, TB and WP just replaced at 190k. The 2UZ-FE isn’t known for HG leaks.

This is most likely the source of higher readings for Sodium & Silicon from the work performed. The Boron is part of the oil additive package & nothing out of the ordinary. Everything looks okay for now. Keep testing to see how it goes from here. Thanks for sharing.

Hmm, I never thought a timing belt, radiator and water pump change would slightly contaminate the oil. I suppose I’ll test again with 4K miles on the oil. Thanks

The wear metals are almost non-existent so I wouldn't worry too much about the silicon or sodium. The lack of potassium is another indicator that it's not a head gasket leak. Definitely do a visual on the air intake system just to be sure, though. Sample at the next oil change and I'm pretty sure those values will go down.

It is normal for Boron to drop with use. In fact, I use it as another indicator of oil life. The closer to zero it gets, the more used the oil is. Just keep in mind that some oils do not use Boron (Pennzoil Platinum and some HPL and Amsoil blends). I believe this Valvoline starts at about 180ppm.

Wow this oil is really good. Im using it now on my 1999 toyota tercel with 4EFE engine. But the engine is still leaking from rear main seal.

Wow, maxlife put out great numbers in your application. I’ve always thought very highly of this oil. You can easily do 5-6k ocis even on the conservative side imo

Sodium is also a detergent add in oils. Valvoline used to use it a lot; but the new anti-LSPI formulations don’t use it bc it is a contributor.
But I’m wondering if Valvoline uses just a bit to enhance cleaning in their HM oil.
