Was playing around at work today on the CPU and had Napa's commercial website up and stumbled upon this when seeing how much Napa's Mercon v was. I believe this fluid is a couple years old but I talked to our rep and she said she could sell it to me for 3.25 a quart and there is at least 4 cases available. It says it is a full synthetic fluid but does not have the ford approval.I think that's due to the fact that it is full syn fluid. What ur guys opinion should I take advantage of this? That's not too bad a price. I've gotten Valvoline Mercon V before from Autozone when they had a $1 clearance. Best regular price is $4.27 for Supertech Mercon V at Walmart. Every once in a while you see Castrol on sale for $4 a quart.

I think Valvoline is doing the same thing, they don't pay the Ford license fee so their bottles actually say that it's recommended for Mercon V applications. Even Walmart's Supertech pays the license fee so they can actually call it Mercon V.

This.

A while back, Valvoline did pay for licensing, so check the bottles carefully. If they say "Mercon V", then they are older stock. If they say "ATF for Mercon V Applications", they are the newer unlicensed version. Why pay for an unlicensed fluid when there are plenty out there that ARE licensed?

But on the other hand, if the fluid was approved and nothing changed except the licensing, why not use it if it is cheaper?

You probably have to look at the VOA to see how are they different, or compare against other fluid.

Seriously, this is 2016, Mercon V is not hard to make already.
