Using 2 Quarts Synthetic Blend and 2Qt FS MaxLife

The debate with Blend vs Full Synth rages on with me.

I think i may literally do half (2 Quarts) Synthetic Blend and Half (2 Quarts) Full Synthetic.. 5w30.. at least for one Oil Change.. MAYBE continue it, i dont know.

I have decided 5w30 is best for my engine, year-round...

I may be analyzing too much..

But since Synthetic Blend is 30% Synthetic anyway (as per Website,) do you think this 50/50 (2 Quarts, 2 Quarts) Mix of Synthetic Blend and MaxLife in 5w30 for my car, is a good move?

Oldsmobile 1991 Calais, 181,000 miles, new head..
 
I see no problem. I never mixed a blend with synthetic. I have mixed PP with PYB 50/50 and made my own blend. IMO my mix was better than a store bought synthetic blend and cheaper too. JMO
 
Unless you already have this oil and are mixing it as a means to use it up, i would just stick with regular synthetic blend maxlife. It's turned out some really decent UOA's. I don't see any need for the full synthetic unless you are going to be doing either extended drain intervals or some kind of competitive or extreme environment driving. If that is the case, then i would use the full synthetic.
 
I don't see a motivation for mixing a blend with a 100% synthetic. The blend will be about 2/3 the price of full synthetic. Why not use a low-priced conventional oil (which likely is an unlabeled blend using 10-30% Group III base stock to meet the rating) and add a quart of synthetic?
 
You gotta stop stressing about this; it doesn't really matter WHAT you run in a 180k-mile 2.5. They just keep going....

I agree. The Iron duke would probably run on olive oil and be fine. I would say just run PYB, or Valvoline WB 5w30 and be happy. At MOST, Maxlife Blend.

.. .Now.. is a "5000 Mile OCI" on Blend and a "7000 Mile OCI" on Full Synthetic good ones for which i should make my CHoices?

Its a 91 Calais, not a Ferrari...

I had a Buick Somerset with the same engine that went 300,000 on Valvoline All-Climate 5W30 before it was junked out. Never had to add oil between changes. As someone else said they will run forever on anything.

Thanks!! And all i can say is.. i thought my 1989 Nissan 240SX was "My Ferrari."

Honestly, if i just bought a Ferrari, id be asking the same questions.. Full Synthetic vs Blend, etc.

If you strive for nothing but perfection with the car, stop worrying about the engine, and start worrying about the body. It will 'fall apart' LONG before the engine will.

Seriously.
