I agree. My 20.5 year old Lexus LS400 with more than 360k miles paid for itself 5-6 years ago. Since then the only cost was gas, insurance, registration and maintenance. It's more or less a free transportation vehicle.

Land is appreciating almost every year, the house actually depreciating every year just like everything else. But the value of the land in So Cal increases so much faster than the building, the total value is going up every year since 1994-1995 except 4 years from 2007 till 2011.
Some houses just sold the last 6-8 weeks for up to 15% more than listed price.
