Grooming day at the zoo. Here’s another Honda amsoil filter cut. I’ve marked the media portion of both. I’m going to let them drain for a while and cut them apart in a couple weeks.

Need to wrap them in many layers of paper towels to do the media "wick trick". Change the paper towels out a time or two, and the filter media will be pretty dry.

Interesting comparison to follow:

Same filter part number, different filters inside. Smaller of the two cut first and results below. I used a hacksaw after draining the oil with paper towels for a couple weeks. Definitely picked up some stuff. HPL is good oil imo. Add me to the choir. 7k oci

I have a stock of Amsoil filters, just not this one as it’s not for one of my vehicles. I’m not familiar with Amsoil date codes but just guessed ‘19 as that’s what made sense when looking at it. It was purchased from Amsoil Nov 12, 2023.

None of my other Amsoil filters utilize an E-Core center section, they’ve always had louvers & metal core(for the last several years anyway, think there were holes about 12-15yrs ago).

bigger of the two. Wire backed media made cutting difficult. It looks like an animal got at it. Best I could do. Not as impressive of catchment. But that’s likely my fault in cutting at it.

There's considerable carbonaceous material between the pleats.

That would be my assumption as well. That has been a trend with HPL.

@Lilliston To @OVERKILL 's point, I didn't do a prior C&P on my other used Amsoil filters, but can say I am glad this stuff is IN the filter vs ON/IN the engine!

I use that 15K13 on my 2022 Polaris RZR XP 1000. Do not put a lot of miles on so I may never change it. 2 yrs and 650 miles of normal riding using AMSOIL ATV 5W-50.

I use the same on my mule. It’s got some HPL in it now and was neglected as hel7 before me. I’ll likely have to cycle through a few times before I can make this call with you.

Another C&P candidate. If this is redundant, I can stop but I want to give Amsoil credit where it’s due. Media to follow after paper towels do their thing. Filtermag is working well still. Louvres nice and tight best I could tell @OVERKILL
