Who makes a descent cloth upholstery cleaner? I've tried several that only work so-so.

303 makes a pretty good carpet/upholstery cleaner.

It cleaned the carpet in my trunk to decent condition after 1/2 the engine was stored in there for years. The stuff from this company is amazing, the prices are good and it only takes a little product as compared to other stuff out there.
I also use a carpet cleaning shampoo from a commercial cleaning supply. Edge-V is awesome but it may be hard to find. The stuff I get is around $12 a gal

I was at Home Depot a few weeks ago and thought I see if they had anything different for cleaning seats. I work as a Park Ranger so our vehicles get really dirty. They recommended “Rock Oil Fabric cleaner and stain remover with nano technology.” I figured, what the heck, I’m buying it with the county’s credit card. So I went back and used it and was very impressed. Took out some very nasty stains.

I think the developer for that product is Mork from Ork. Since it has nano technology built in.
Hello, I've had nothing but AMAZING GREAT RESULTS from "Tuff-Stuff". They dropped the pump spray bottle I preferred but continue to sell the product in an aerosol can. The product worked 100% on a greasy food stain on the seat of my sister's Jeep which was YEARS old.

Instead of relying on cleaners which never fully remove the stain an extractor is what you want. The Bissell Little Green is probably the best for the non-professional.
A wet dry vac with a narrow nozzle also works well. Then any off the shelf upholstery, carpet cleaner, or APC works better than speacialty products.
My best results always were with liquid Tide, a good rinse and extract cycle and then spraying down with diluted fabric softener and extracting that mixture. That always got everything out, including the stuff that got sopped up in the foam.

+1, found out about the stuff on a gents detail website. He likes to use it on carpets with hot water. Got a big can for $2.50 on sale. It's available at Wal-Marts and most auto parts stores.
Also Dri-Clean rug/upholstery cleaner. Had a good review in CR mag many years ago.

Locate a Janitorial Supply company and ask for a commerical grade carpet extractor fluid. It will typically be used with warm water. Buy a weed sprayer and paint lable it for shampoo only. Never use a prior sprayer that is unknown. The insecticides / weed killers can leach into the plastic pores and come out into your shampoo.
Spray and shop vac simaltaniously. Repeat until clean.
Extractor chemical will leave little odor and will not remain in the cloth as much as a "soap".
