Unbelievable Tire Shop quality

My neighbor had a tire blow-out on his way from work the other day. He put on the spare and went to a local chain store to get a replacement tire. After the tire replacement he mentioned to me that he could feel a vibration and that his TPMS light was on.

I advised him to take it back and get them to check it but since we were just hanging out and having a libation I asked him to pull the tire and let me put it on my balancer just to see if there was anything obvious. What I found made my jaw hit the floor. This is the quality of work that is being sent out the door at a local national tire store. Do you think it'd do any good to take these pictures back to the shop and show the manager? I corrected the balance issue and installed new TPMS sensors and got that problem corrected but this level of work ethic has no cure.

Why didn't they use crimpy weights? It's a standard steel wheel.
This entire task was done incorrectly. Surprisingly the wheel took very little weight to balance. I put 0.5 oz on the inside and 0.75 on the outside. Two simple wheel weights and it balanced out nicely. What the guy at this shop was thinking is beyond my imagination.

Probably didn't have it screwed down right and was chasing weight, just adding more and more.

Was that
Was that Mavis tire?

Was that Mavis tire?
I don't want to name the chain but it's written right on the tire. I have to wonder if the employees receive any form of training before being turned loose on the customer's wheels. I know it's just tire installation and balance but maybe they should go through a week of apprenticeship working alongside a senior mechanic or something.

Not surprised at all.
Some techs could care less.

I would take photos and call Corporate Office.

🙁

Another reminder of why I’ve been using a local father and son shop for the last 20 years. I’ll pay a few bucks more to have this not happen.
