Ultrasonic Dog Barking Deterrant

good topic. I live on 1/3 acre. both neighbors on my left and right like to let their dog outside when I go outside to do yard work. they bark like crazy and I ignore it. I'm convinced they do this sometimes just to be jerks. I'm gonna check to see if I can use some bark silencer products by the fence to keep their yappin dogs away

I think that is an issue. Many people probably don't realize that their dogs' barking even bothers anyone else. If a dog barks constantly it is probably NOT a deterrent to burglary or home invasion. If you are fortunate enough to have neighbors who can overlook your inconsiderateness you should be thankful as most would-be burglars probably don't pay enough attention to notice that a dog that barks all the time is not going to garner the attention you desire. As I mentioned earlier, having a constant source of noise emanating from your property is very inconsiderate. You know who you are and I know you either don't notice or don't care.

Did you ask the police what should/could be done? Animal control?

Ask yourself what you would expect a self-respecting neighbor would do if your dog was barking?

All the best in your issue.

This.

It is absolute NONSENSE that they claim they cannot hear their own dog, the fact is they just don't give a carp about their neighbors. Period.

I say first firmly in an even tone lay down the law, that is that there IS a ordinance (LAW) about not letting their dog bark incessantly and thus it is a disturbance of the peace. After you warn them use a recording device to capture the dog barking with a time stamp, record every time you hear the animal bark. Then after you have multiple instances of the barking call animal control and the police department and file a complaint.

Bottom line is that people like this won't care about others until YOU FORCE THEM TO DO SO. These ignorant dolts COUNT on you NOT acting. So surprise them.

One thing you could try is to make friends with the dog. If he's barking because he isn't getting enough attention, let him know that you'll come over and visit for a few minutes every day that he doesn't wake you up. He'll like that. If he too loud while you're there, you leave.

It isn't your dog and you shouldn't have to do anything like that, but it might get you some sleep and it won't start any trouble with the neightbors.

I do not like HOA's and I am not in one, but this is one of the things that can be resolved with an HOA. When I say that your neighbors don't care I do not mean that they are being malicious. It just doesn't occur to them. While you should not have to sugarcoat it, they will not respond lashing out but they will respond in kind. They're just exemplifying the type of ignorance that occurs when technology overcomes natural selection.

So, if you don't have an HOA, figuring out how to live with it, or moving, are probably your best options.

Until you get this figured out properly you could try sleeping with ear plugs. Its not a long term fix but should help you get some sleep.

This neighbor doesn't give a s**t about the grief this dog is causing you and your family. The neighbor knows they have a barking nuisance but refuse to do anything about it. I would record and document the barking incidences in a log. Call Animal Control for their advice. Call the police as well and file a complaint. You may have to go to Court as well. I doubt HOA will do anything meaningful. Just love inconsiderate people! These actions will be the only things that will get through to them. Best and Good Luck.
