Time for the annual dog barking talk with neighbor

Then, as happened last spring, after the third or fourth year of this problem, the county animal control office fined the owner $800 total for the barking.

Then the idiot owner makes an even bigger idiot of himself, by yelling and screaming to everyone involved, that he "ain't paying no $800 in fines". (I learned this from someone down at the Village Hall).
.

And when this bonehead fails to pay they will create a warrant for his arrest. Hope the guy is drunk when they come out to get him, and he starts a fight with the police, deadly force will be used to eliminate the threat from that nasty neighbor. Then the town will come and confiscate the animals. Problem solved.

I'm sick and tired of all these inconsiderate clowns we have running around lose.

I'm not aware of any jurisdiction that will actually send officers or deputies out to get someone on a minor misdemeanor failure to appear bench warrant.
That certainly wouldn't happen in your city, where the local law has more important matters to attend to, like homicides as well as less serious felonies.
The rest of your post is just nastiness.
Be wary of what you wish upon others, since karma has a way of coming back around.

Wait until he's asleep and then put a no-bark collar on him.

On the neighbor or the dog?

That is an understatement. Most labs are certifiably retarded. Sweet dogs, but they are really dumb.

Good luck. I would try reasoning with the owner one more time, but after that take whatever legal and humane means are necessary.

hahaha

yeah, loud animal noises permeating residences are the worst! dogs, pretty annoying.
roosters and parrots- just the absolute worst.

ear plugs are a must. i need them in the tropics, and for about the past 2 years here at home, have been sleeping with them no matter what. they're amazing, highly recommended

Actually they do.

It sounds like the idiot dog owner is a lush among other things, and eventually he will make a big enough error that he is arrested, whether for DUI, or other.

The dog's owner is disturbing the peace. That is an actionable offence.

If the subject refuses to pay the fine after repeated warnings they will arrest him.

Darwin needs to do some serious house cleaning in our modern society.

I really do love dogs, but the fact is that they MUST be properly trained and cared for and the owner's must respect their neighbors and prevent the animal from affecting the quality of life whether from being bitten, or their incessant barking.

I believe that dog ownership as well as other similar animals (cats too) should be severely restricted in the future with high licensing fees and certifications to own them, and stiff penalties for any violations that affect other humans and their property or quality of life.

I own a farm plot north of you in the Northwoods much larger than your lot and when I can hear my neighbor's Rhodesian Ridgebacks to the north of me howling or the neighbor's German Shepherds south of me and that usually means we've got company, LP delivery, UPS, FedEx. etc. during daylight hours and at night it could be black bears, predators, trespassers, etc.

So my suggestion would be to get some ear plugs and consider the barking dog an early warning system for unwanted company. I'm still at shock at this home invasion that happened in your area. LINK

Call my family and I paranoid but we understand the current world we live in is shared by many human predators and we are solely responsible for our own safety when seconds count.

The vindictive side of me would want to purchase a high intensity, directional speaker system that would allow your neighbors to enjoy your favorite Slayer album at all hours of the night.

I suppose this is why they're regularly used as guide dogs for the blind. Because blind people enjoy the company of retarded pets.

The problem with dogs is that they're only as good as their owner.

I agree with what you said about this world....however when a dog is constantly barking you do not pay attention to it for defensive purposes. Dogs that only bark for a good reason is much better!

I don't know, maybe they do. I did say most, not all.

I have never met a service dog, as you are supposed to leave them alone, so I was just thinking in terms of "family pet" dogs.

Spot on that dogs are only as good as their owners. My opinion on labs is largely shaped by the fact that many people get them because of their friendly disposition and nothing else. "Family pet LOL LOL dog LOL." Then they treat it like they do the family cat and leave it alone in the house or yard all day to go nuts. The cat is quite happy the people are gone all day...the dog is not.

Dogs were largely bred as working animals and need that outlet in some form to stay balanced and non-obnoxious. Without an outlet, they can become an immense nuisance, as OP is experiencing. Labs especially seem to be acquired without a purpose, and as a result, end up being retarded pets. Super friendly dogs, but they have an energy level most people are unwilling to keep up with, so they just let the dog go crazy, and everyone within earshot of it suffers.

I agree 100%. Labs are very highly strung and full of energy. When not taught to obey and mind, they are a real pain.. more so than say a Newfoundland which is very laid back.

I have persononally seen all breeds of service dogs from Great Danes to little terrier things. When trained, all breeds are pretty smart.. with the exception of a few. Lol.

What a self-righteous @sshole.

let technology do it for you.there's no sense approaching the neighbor. if he doesn't know that his dog barking is an issue, then he's just stupid. and, you can't reason with stupid people.electronic control eliminates any dealing/possible confrontation with a stupid neighbor.
a device can be placed such that the neighbor won't even know that it's there.
i'll continue my hand holding -- "dog silencer pro". two friends confirm that it works.
go to the horse's mouth FIRST, instead of starting an itching thread.
or, you could ask antiqueshell for a solution.he'll know that it's some plot/conspiracy. his solution will be subtle -- like using napalm, or something from the M72 family.
no disrespect to the op, but a thinking person SHOULD be able to deal with a petty problem such as this, without itching about it on the net.we were taught, at a young age, to deal with petty problems in life, instead of whining about them. just sayin'.good luck.

You're totally right that labs can be pretty [censored] dumb. But with even some basic training and discipline they will totally surprise you. Some of the smartest dogs I've ever met were labs.... but again, training.

I had a horrible problem with a barking dog left outside all night! I talked to the neighbor, called the cops every night, threatened to "take the law into my own hands" (keywords for cops to get a response) , thereby waking the neighbors up at 3AM. Nothing worked.

UNTIL, I took a new set of triple air horns, draped them over the fence, hooked them to a big battery, and let them blair away for hours. God, they were loud.

The response was a very loud "swear word" and a slamming door. To which, I responded, "that's going to continue until you behave".

I had to do it, only one more time....

what would you have done if they had just blasted them with a 12 gauge, or taped it and called the police?

Honestly...those air horns could cross the line of actually being CRIMINAL.

Personally, I'd probably have just taken a sledgehammer to them, or just filled them with spray foam. Actually...if they were on my side of the fence, I would have simply TAKEN them!

Except if the offending neighbor trespassed onto his property to remove or damage them he could have been shot legally.

That is one of the best things about Florida, the stand your ground laws and right to protection of private property are extremely solid.

Same for this state where I now live (SC) if you are trespassing on private property you can be shot and the justice system here will have the Judge simply saying, you violated the law and got what was coming to you. The property owner will have NO issues at all, most of the Sheriff's in this state will applaud you too for protecting yourself from harm and property loss. They encourage self protection of persons and property.

Frankly if an offender is terminated it saves others from being victims and of course it saves the state the cost of trying them and housing them in prison.

Not all bark collar's are created equal. You can offer to buy a collar that sprays a scent when the dog barks. The scent sprayer cost about the same as a shock collar.

What I would do if it could be done without trespassing is when the dog is going ape is I would just grab the dog by the neck and hold the dog down until it got the point that I am the leader here not him and barking because he is lonely is not the answer.

Also a super soaker water cannon works nice too if you can get close enough to the dog if trespassing is a issue.

There is no easy answer here you and your neighbor will have to work out a agreement.

Not sure how far your bedroom is from where the barking dog roams. So solutions depend.

Sound activated sprinkler?

What senses do a dog have in spades? Hearing and smell. > 20kHz noise will make quite a racket (to the dog) via a compression driver. No one else will hear it. It can be configured to be motion-activated. Sort of like a bark-collar....without the collar.

Regarding smell....predator urine? Wolf, coyote, fox. Something foreign to your area. Or try dung from a visiting zoo such as lion, tiger, panther, bobcat....major predator. Place near your property line. He'll get the hint straight-through-his/her-nostrels that a new big, bad dog has arrived and is marking his territory...IOW: STAY AWAY.

Given their senses, any local dogs will smell this from very far off. They'll all be on alert....and so will any other wildlife.
