Ultra Platinum or Restore and Protect

Natural gas GTL oils have some great properties but Pennzoil isn’t the only oil in town that uses them. Just look at the sds for restore and protect

Valvoline Restore and Protect 0w-20: 60-80% GTL
Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w-20: 45-70% GTL
Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30: 30-60% GTL

Just wanna give an update...In the latest SDS (version 2.6), there's no more GTL listed. Instead, they list mostly just Group III. As well as the extended protection line. Why they changed it? I don't know...😕

Probably found a cheaper way to blend maximize their profits. I totally get it. Imagine how great the oil could be if these majors just wanted to make the best product possible without blending to a price point.

Great info sir. Thank You. Do we know how much GTL is in Valvoline Extended Protection High Mileage 5w-20 and 0w-20 and 5w-30?

Thank You

Another update...The "latest" SDS is back to 2.4, which shows GTL content. The supposedly "newer" version 2.6 is...removed? Weird.

I've been reading about Mobil 1 ESP maintaining cleanliness properties, so I like that. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum has it's pluses as well on maintaining cleanliness. But the bonus is Pennz's rebate. Buy 2 and get a $25 giftcard.

I'm running r&p 5w30 in my ram right now with a mobil1 113-a filter .........seat of the pants is it's extremely smooth running and motor is super quiet from cold start ...... I've run ep/hm 5w30 in the past ....hemi loves both oils

If I had just bought a used vehicle then maybe I'd try the Valvoline to clean it out inside. Since my last handful of vehicles were purchased new and I'm changing the oil on time or ahead of time for the life of the vehicle I'd stick with Mobil 1 but definitely open to try the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

I gave up on Pennzoil, so if I had a need to clean an engine I'd go with Restore and Protect. Otherwise I'll be sticking with ESP and worry about what to use next once my stash is depleted.
Curious why you “gave up” on Pennzoil ? I switched away from Pennzoil due to being a thin 30 weight and because Pennzoil didn’t keep engines as clean as marketing said it would (PPPP) . Maybe Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is a different story but I had already moved on to Mobil 1 5w30, Mobil 1 Extended Performance, then Mobil 1 ESP 0w30. Any of the Mobil 1 oils keeps a cleaner engine in my opinion. I am trying Valvoline Restore and Protect now due to some oil consumption so hoping for ring pack cleaning - if not using Valvoline Restore and Protect currently I was happy with the Mobil 1 ESP 0w30.

Another difference is Mobil 1 ESP has a significant list of OEM approvals …
These are demanding companies - and allot of testing to earn them …

I was one of the early adopters circa API SM, the dark gray bottles. It was touted as the best here by many well respected members. Later on many here were saying they messed with the formula. In any event used oil analysis for my van using it weren't great, so I switched to ESP, touted as the best once again, this time I agree. ;) I didn't look back. Flame suit on.
