5w30 in my case.

How do you figure? Ultra's Viscosity @ 40*C, cSt = 61.9 and its Viscosity @ 100*C, cSt = 10.3. The Viscosity @ 40*C, cSt is slightly higher than average for 5w30 full synthetics.

If anything, it's EDGE that's closer to a 5W-20. It's Viscosity @ 40*C, cSt = 54.17 and its Viscosity @ 100*C, cSt = 9.8.

Sorry, I had a "happy typing fingers" after working a 12hr shift and accidentally typed Ultra instead of Edge when I referred to the viscosity being close to a 5w-20. Thanks for catching this.

I can testify to Edge being quiet too. I thought it might be in my head but it's happened on a couple vehicles now. I don't know what they do, but that oil just seems very smooth and quiet for some reason.

I've tried 3 different oils on our Accents. In order from loudest to quietest.

Mobil 1 5W20
Castrol Syntec 5W20
Pennzoil Ultra 5W30

Mobil 1 was by far the loudest, but I am not sure if it was because of the oil or the filter- on that one change we used the Mobil 1 synthetic filter instead of the Hyundai OEM.

Between Syntec and PU, is is very close. As I am on the second batch of PU in my Accent, I believe it has gotten even quieter yet.

I'm sticking with PU.

I'm planning on using ultra for the next few oil changes. But I could tell small difference between regular M1 5w30 and 10w30 in my Ecotec 2.2. Difference was more pronounced with M1 0W-40, yet the quietest it runs with M1 HM 10w30 which I have in right now. Smoothest operation I've ever experienced in that engine. But then again - this Ecotec seems to like heavy oils for whatever reason.

I couldn't tell the difference between M1 5/10W-30 and any other oil in my parent's Accord.

We've debated sound before it may or may not indicate anything. I can tell you IMO a quiet running engine is something I'm looking for vs an engine making noise. Having said that I can tell when someone has a sump full of saw dust or gear oil in an attempt to quiet an engine down. So if an oil is producing less noise and is the grade the mfg suggests I'd consider that something good.

Do you guys think the Edge 5w30 is close enough to a 20wt to run in a newer honda? 2007 accord 6 cylinder. I've been looking for the 5w-20 edge but cannot find any in local stores. Only 5w30. Currently using 5w-20 syntec.

I think the Edge is worth the extra $$. I'm very pleased with it in the two vehicles I'm using it in as I already mentioned. If you watch sales you can get a good deal on it with a top quality filter, which is what I do.

I'm not sure if they are near you or not, but you might be able to get someone to price match them if not. HTH

thanks! im currently running the ultra in my jeep but im not sure its worth $8 a quart, will be interested to give edge a try!

Edge is on sale at O'Reilly's. 5 quarts with a M1 EP filter for $29.99 for those looking to try it. I even seen Edge 0w20 I think in there, which I didn't even realize they made. It had a red box around the 0w20 for some reason, it was right next to the 5w20.

I'm switching the 01 GMC 3.8 and the 10 Cobalt 2.2 ecotec over to Edge after their current runs. Well, I should say switching the GMC back to Edge. That thing never ran smoother/quieter in its life than on Edge 10w30.

I think edge is a great oil, but a little on a thin side. You should be totally fine running 5w30 Edge in your Honda. If you look at the product data sheets of M1 5W-20 and Edge 5w30 those oils have very similar viscosities and difference is less than 10%.

Ok thanks for the info! I may just see if i can find some 5w20 but if i cant by the next time the oil is due for a change, i'll give the 5w30 a try.

Wow this thread exploded haha. So yeah, different experiences all around. I guess the 3.7L powertech doesn't like Ultra. No biggie, as long as it cleans and protects like it claims, I won't complain no longer

I may have expected too much from PYB 10w30. I tried to smooth out a rough idling 1999 Ford 2.0.
