A couple of years ago, I bought a Wahl Model 9818 cordless, Li-Ion battery hair/beard trimmer. I'd had some really cheap, cheesy, plasticky ones in the past that didn't last, so I decided to spend a little more (I think I paid around $75) and get something that would hopefully last a little longer and perform better. It has a stainless steel body and many attachments for trimming your hair, beard, as well as that bane of the existence of middle-aged men everywhere - errant nose and ear hair!
And the Lithium-Ion battery and efficient motor promises a 4-hour runtime with a 1-hour charge, or a 3-minute runtime with a 1-minute quick-charge from a totally dead battery.
Well, I loved the trimmer until I'd had it for a couple of years and, for unknown reasons, it stopped accepting a full charge. It still worked, but would only run for about 5 minutes, then die. I lived with the situation for a long time, then finally decided to roll the dice and call Wahl, because I had saved the original box, which advertises a 5-year warranty.
I expected them to ask me to send the unit in, at my expense, along with my purchase receipt (which I couldn't find). To my surprise, the lady asked when I bought it. I didn't remember an exact date, so I told her it was a couple of years ago. She asked if it had ever gotten wet, to which I replied that it had not. After describing the problem, she immediately offered to send a new replacement. Less than 1 week later, the replacement was on my doorstep - and it's even an upgraded model that has better battery life and more trimming attachments! She never even asked me to send the old unit in!
This is great customer service!
