2005 Ford Ranger FX-4 Off-Road, 4.0l 4WD accessory belt (mine's looking dry + cracked)
part numbers 4L5Z-8620-EA and JK6873EA come up.
The belt on my truck bears the first number.

Is there a difference between these two numbers? Is one a cheaper version of the other? Why make an additional part number?

It's the same part, but the first number is the FoMoCo number and the other is the Motorcraft number.

I just bought an OEM wheel bearing for my Buick and it had 2 part numbers as well: a GM # and an ACD #.

I'd figure out the length and just get a Gates or Dayco, etc, whatever major brand is cheaper. No need nor expected benefit to get an OEM rebranded belt except to save the couple minutes looking up the cross reference part #'s, plus the aftermarket "might" be newer stock as well... I doubt that Motorcraft continued to contract out the making of more belts for 2005 vehicles so theirs would all be old stock, unless they are now just stuffing someone else's belt into a motorcraft box and charging their brand name markup.
