First, the gallons now come in a strange translucent jug, is this new?

Second, I bought this along with a 2.5 gal jug, which is still white plastic as it always has been.

The stuff in the 2.5 gal jug pours as I would expect 15W40 to pour (I service a handful of diesels) but man the stuff in the gallon jug sure seems thin. It sloshes around in the jug like it's thin (but maybe the almost-clear jug is messing with my mind) and it pours like it's thin.

Both the 2.5 and 1 gallon were poured at same ambient. To me the 1 gallon pours like 5W20 or maybe 5W30

NOW I realize this is galaxies away from being REMOTELY scientific, so I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same impressions? It's entirely possible I'm delusional.

The bottle:

Does this mean anything to anyone?

The only thing on the bottom other than the HDPE recycling triangle:

Honestly I don't really feel like dealing with a VOA at roughly twice the cost of the gallon in the first place. Just curious if anyone else has used these and their Spidey-sense also said something was weird.

edit: tamper-proof foil was in place and looked perfect

Interesting, was there a safety seal?

I like that translucent container for the practical purposes to see how much is left. If only it was straight clear like Quaker State 4x4 SL from the early 2000s.

I've been drawing from a 5 gallon bucket of 15w40 supertech conventional for awhile now and it doesnt seem thinner or thicker then anything else I've been playing with.

You could make your own viscometer. Get some aluminum flashing, drill a 0.050" hole in it, drill a larger hole in the bottom of a cup, glue the two together. Add sample "A" and time how long it takes to pass through, then repeat with "B".

The English call their Kerosene and Diesel "28-second" and "35-second" oil, respectively.

Keep it out in 20F for 24 hours then try to pour it out... 😅
As far as I've seen it's a good standard oil. I do like the more visible bottle too. There was another member that did a VOA on it.

I found that before posting but it was 2018. IF these jugs are new I'm wondering if they switched bottlers. I don't buy it that often so maybe they have been this way for several years.

Yeah, I figured you've seen the VOA already but threw it in here. Seeing that it was "Ford Approved" mentioned in that thread says that it was at least CK-4. There has been sort of a "Version 2" or better yet an evolution of CK-4 style oils over the years since. Not sure when your bottles were produced & wonder if even Tractor supply or wherever they were bought could even tell you the dates on them but worth a try?

I miss the QS 4x4 oil. Those clear bottles were the best
