I'm a bit on edge, waiting for the phone to ring tonight. My 19 yo daughter is on her first solo trip abroad and headed to South Korea to take a college class. There will be some other kids from her college there, but they're pretty much going to be unchaperoned there for three weeks.

Don't like it one bit.

I have the belief that you raised a fine young lady and you don't have to worry about her. I do understand your concerns and worries with such a far away trip though! I would feel the same....keep occupied anyway you can and coming on BITOG is definitely a good place to start.

Thanks. She's a good kid and not prone to doing stupid stuff, but she is a bit too self confident and adventuresome for her dad's tastes.
I Bet she is a good one. I do recall the anxiousness and concerns the wife and I had when our kids got old enough to start taking trips all over the place. We put our faith in up above in gear and did the best we could not to check on them too much. We were always lucky ours never got in one bit of trouble or any incidents. I can imagine how it feels to be proud and concerned at same time. She should be fine since you raised her right. (y)

You'll make an awesome grandpa! I'm kidding. Not about you making an awesome grandpa, I'm sure you will be a great grandpa but about you becoming a grandpa anytime soon. My son has been in Japan since spring. I haven't heard from him in a week Now you got me worried. He's about to turn 23, What could go wrong?

I believe Japan is literally the safest country on earth.

We lucked out in the kids department. Both inherited more than their fair share of smarts. My wife is a child psychologist and is always relating about how good we had it as parents.

We just recently married off our oldest to a delightful young lady and he is studying to be a minister. We fully expect his new wife to be fully capable of keeping him corraled.

My daughter on the other hand... I keep waiting for her to announce her plans to climb Everest or kayak down the Nile. Sigh

Just married off my son so I wouldn't mind some grandkids someday.

I hear in Japan that it's considered "cute" for young men to get sloppy, fall down drunk.

Yes, some day. Preferably when I'm 90. :ROFLMAO:

He doesn't drink but he suffers a fatal attraction to Asian girls. Better than Russian strippers exotic Russian dancers, I'll say. No offense, Tatiana, your kalitki* are without comparison.

*delicious pastries made with rye four and filled with mashed potato and sour cream that originate from Finland but are most popular in Russia

Our oldest son was like that until he moved about 700mi away and got married about 16 years ago. He and his bride were on a "travel the world" kick until..... ta da! They had a little boy. Since he was born nine years ago they have settled down into the nice little family home life. They only now travel to take him places. Lots of Appalachian and Alleghany mountain range trips to take him to learn n enjoy nature. Hiking , camping , fishing , swimming in creeks. etc.... So we are not the least concerned about them trotting across the globe anymore as they get older.

That's pretty cool.

Don't text her too much.

My daughter's job takes her on many oversea trips. Before she told us, then I worried until sometimes I was making myself sick. Now, she tells my wife only and let's me know when she gets home. Ripcord, I feel your pain.
