Ive had good luck with sopus products but there prices locally have gone up. Ive had bad luck with mobil (more oil consumption and noise) maybe not a huge deal but I don't like it. I got castrol dino for the pt cruiser and edge for the focus how does their synthetic oil compare to others ?

Syntec/Edge has always been my favorite oil. Wish Walmart still carried the 10W40 and 5W50 (back when they had a better oil selection).

Castrol Edge is very good oil, with high starting TBN and ACEA ratings for all grades. Just as good if not better than PP.

Keep in mind that Magnatec is also full synthetic in the 5w20 recommended for your Focus. Comparable to QSUD.

Before you decide, check your local Kmart, if one is nearby, because they have a clearance on PP 0w20 for only $9

The Castrol will probably keep the Focus out of the shop.

If you can get past their inane advertising Castrol makes some excellent oils. I run a lot of Castrol and have never been disappointed.

Castrol products generally run quietly regardless of the one you choose, another plus.

Castrol does not get a ton of love on here because IMO:

1) Their advertising is offensive to relatively knowledgeable BITOG'ers

2) They don't sell anything called Mobil 1

3) Their product data sheets are awful, another turn off for BITOG'ers.

In spite of that they have managed to sell me a lot of oil.

I agree with KC Jeeps assessment. Castrol makes very good oils that have served me very well too. The Castrol w titanium does keep gas mileage and horsepower over a long run. Only caveat is in very cold temps Castrol may not flow the best. But unless someone see regular -30°C it would not be a concern.

They are also owned by BP who is still responsible for the huge oil spill in the gulf a few years back.

Yes and I can't get the images of little birds covered in crude oil out of my head.

I figure if they're that cheap with their oil rig equipment, what kind of cost cutting measures are they taking with their motor oil?

Funny...the first Iraq War resulted in somewhere around 250x more oil spilled, but nobody seems to remember that.

Very true!

Are people really that naive to believe a large scale oil spill wont happen to another large oil company? (not naming names but you know who I mean). [censored] happens.

I've noticed the cold flow lower performance in Castrol Edge too. Still a good oil, I like their Edge Extend Perf version best, and of course their 0w-40 euro oil is awesome.

I have worked in one of bp's chemical plants in decatur Alabama many times and I can say that they have crazy strict qc. And everything is so clean and we'll kept. Also they have some of the best plant operators. So if there oil refinerys are anything like there chemical plants then by no means are they cheaping out on there product. And I would have to say there mixers are probably held to the same standards.

Please use proper grammar when making personal accusations.

Yeah ExMachina their stuff is a bit to the thick side in colder temps. I had no problem starting my car this last winter with low temps near -16°C. Man two consecutive winters here in southeast Virginia with low temps below -15°C or colder. I like cold weather but its been a bit tough

I had the Castrol w titanium in when it got down that cold. Though if u lived in Vermont where the girl and I vacationed at I would have to run something else. That Castrol would been thicker than maple syrup out of the trees there
