Truck tug a war.

If you break your truck doing that your truck is a POS. Trucks are DESIGNED to pull on stuck things!

It really has nothing to do with power or weight. Whoever breaks traction first will lose. There are videos on youtube of pickup/semi tug of wars...and the pickup wins as soon as the semi's tires start spinning. It really proves nothing.

Truck 1: A 2012 F350 DRW 4x4 crew cab diesel with heavy bumpers on the front and rear( Ranch Hand replacements) tires are AT Goodyears with about 75% tread.
Truck2 A 2009 automatic Dodge 3500 DRW 4x4 quad cab diesel with a heavy bumper on the front. Tires are ATs with about 50-60% tread.
Both claim to be stone stock mechanically.

I bet a coke that the Ford wins. I believe it is a good deal heavier than the Dodge.

After your 2 buddies have their Tug-A-War, this subject will need to be move to the Mechanical/Maintenance Section

I don't know why so many people think something is going to break?! Trucks are designed to pull on things! They are designed to pull 10,000+ lb trailers. They are designed to pull your stuck buddy out of the mud. That's why my truck came from the FACTORY with TOW HOOKS!

If you break your "vehicle" doing this then it wasn't a "truck" to begin with.

my nod goes to the dodge. But alot has to deal with the hitch hieght and driver.
I remember ndoing dumb stuff like this when i was younger . I had a 302 ford that would out pull anything I hooked it to, it most certainly wasnt the truck that made me win.

They aren't designed to pull on things that are pulling against them in a tug of war. Towing a trailer or pulling a buddy out of the mud is a lot different than pulling against another truck with a driver who has the same intentions as you.

It's not a "lot different". You are pulling on a load that doesn't want to move. Like pulling any other stuck thing. Yes, it is pulling the other way, so it's like pulling a stuck thing up a hill. Still not something a truck should have a problem with. You should be able to strap your truck to an oak tree and pull until your tires melt off.

You ever see the things tow trucks pull on? I just watched a tow truck pull so hard on my truck that the front wheels were 2 feet off the ground! Remember when they towed the space shuttle with a stock Toyota?

I've towed, and I saw the Toyota commercial. I've also done tug of war in the 70's, as a youth who really didn't care.

I'll repeat its a great way to ruin your truck.

I think its best we agree to respectfully disagree. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Have you ever been to a truck pull before? They are normally done on a soft dirt course. A lot of nice none "POS" trucks breakdown as they are pulling the sled. Yes a few can be because of the driver's lead foot, but a few of the times its not.

On a novice level, like I did, it was done with winning in mind and no regard for the truck. We typically did it with work trucks used for delivery when the boss wasn't around. Hook them up pointing in opposite directions and punch them out. Busted motor mounts, transmission mounts, and a burnt out transmission was common. The boss eventually caught on and fired two drivers, thankfully I wasn't in that event.

We would also run into one another on the road doing deliveries. A co-worked would pull up behind you at a light, put his bumper to yours while your stopped and try and push you into the intersection. That would result in the front truck driver putting his truck into Reverse and pushing back. The guy with the automatic transmission usually won against the stick. Clutches didn't last very long in that event. A few times we'd go bumper to bumper, pushing into one another and see who could move the other guy in the opposite direction the most. LOL Thank God I grew up and no one got hurt.

To think a vehicle can't break during this kind of abuse because it's a "truck" is silly. I break axle shafts, u-joints, and all sorts of driveline components with one ton running gear in a Jeep sized vehicle. Axle shafts can only twist so much, for so long, when at max capacity! I won't even mention the weak IFS front ends the half and some 3/4 tons run.

Well he was comparing a truck tug of war to hauling the shuttle with a Toyota. When the Jeep Comanche came out they did the same concept with a semi.

Ayone ever see the one for the Volkswagen Touareg TDI? Id say it definitely one ups the Toyota, but I still wouldn't put it in a truck pull.

The point is a truck is designed from the factory to pull on heavy things! If you were talking about a car, or even an SUV...no, they aren't designed to pull on things the same way. A truck is literally designed to pull.

Go look on youtube at truck tug of war videos. You will probably find over a million. If trucks blew up doing this as much as some like to think, then you would see nothing but those videos. I have yet to see even one. (Not that they don't exist)

I'm not saying no truck has ever broken anything in a tug of war. But lots of trucks have broken things pulling other trucks out of the mud, they were still designed to do that. Lots of trucks break simply driving down the road.

But beyond that, it's really not your place to judge somebody who wants to do this with a truck that they own. There is nothing wrong with it. They probably think you do stupid activities with little economy cars too. You wouldn't say taking your truck to a track and checking the quarter mile time is stupid, would you? Lots of people blow up their vehicles pushing them to the limit doing that also.

Now, if you try this in an old beat up POS truck that is already on it's last legs, then yes, something will probably break. A good reliable vehicle should not. If that is all it takes to break it you have a poor quality truck. It's nothing more than a stress test, and if your truck fails, it was not healthy. Just like drag racing. (in a safe, controlled environment)

I think you need to brush up on your reading comprehension. I didn't judge anyone who wants to beat their truck in this fashion. What I said, was that it is silly to think that a truck is designed to continuously pull against a stationary object without breaking and if it does, it was a POS to begin with. Trucks have GVW ratings and their components have maximum stress ratings.

I have been on this forum for quite a few years and have yet to meet someone who beats their vehicles in off road situations worse than I do. Please know your audience before spouting the economy car comments.

New trucks as delivered off the show room floor were not designed, nor will they stand up to abuse such as this, for very long. Anyone thinking otherwise is not very knowledgeable about trucks. An individual can do as he/she pleases with their truck, but abusing said truck in this manner shows immaturity and fiscal irresponsibility.

I don't need to know you to argue with you. (For that matter, I don't want to)

You guys can think what you want but you really have no facts to support your opinions. Simply driving your truck can be "abuse". Everything you ever do to your truck causes wear. It's up to you what is acceptable or not.

Would you guys have freaked out the same way if he said he wanted to go to a track and drag race his buddy?
