It just came to me this morning that there is a place where we could all meet in peace. It seems obvious that we could all use 5W30 synthetic in any application, or alternatively use whatever you wish, but remain silent. Who is is with me? Who will end this “Forever War?” I could use prompt answers as I am going to Wal Mart later in the day.

We could but what would be the fun in that?

Unless if I could get some bulk discount for buying a drum I'm not sure what I'd gain. Have 3 grades at the moment on the bench, try to keep an OCI or two on the shelf in stock, as I'd hate to stock up only to lose the vehicle using that grade. I guess going your way would mean that drum could still be used but still seems like juggling risks. Like, what if I went EV or moved? low risk but big cost.

Thin always loses.
Piston driven aircraft don't run 20wt oil because not falling out the sky is more important than fuel economy.
IIIG and later IIIH tests have always allowed worse results for 20wt, almost like they're planning for engines running 20wt to not last as long....
Long term tests show more 20 to 25% more ring wear with 20wt oil than 30wt oil.

Make that 0W-30 for those of us who experience winter extremes and I'm in.

In fact, I decided last year to go with 0W-30 as the one oil to rule them all, at least for the vehicles I service.

One is spec'ed for 5W-20; I believe the others are all 5W-30.

Which 0W-30? Based on wise counsel here on BITOG, I'm going with Mobil 1 ESP.

Reasonable.

What´s fun is to instigate an argument between the thickies and thinnies over a brand of 0w20 with a kinnematic viscosity of 9.2 at 100 degrees and a brand of 5w30 that is 9.4. Then stand back and watch them shred each other.

There is a better solution, be less impressionable and be more closed minded. Use 0w20 in old diesel’s and 15w40 in GDI engines and post results for others to salivate over.

I doubt it!

I will say No!

Not on this Forum!
Who is is with me?
Not me!
Who will end this “Forever War?”
It will end when the side that is wrong stops arguing with the side that is right! I am not going to be the Who person!

End the war? No fun in that. Thickie, just like my skull. THICKIES RULE!!! 😁.

Of course, I AM using a lot of 0W-30 ESP 😳.
