Hey guys,

The car in question is a 2005 G35 Sedan AT

I had a flush at 39k with Matic-S (12quarts) at the dealer. on 1/05/10

I just checked the fluid level and color today, since I am hearing a noise from the tranny. And On a Piece of paper its light brown and the level seems like its over filled(I had the transmission at operating temp and left it running when I pulled the dipstick)

I am at 51k now, and so the fluid is about 12k miles old. 80% of my miles if not more is Commuting to and from school which are all highway miles.

Here is a video I made of the sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh6n0Q4wObQ

You can really hear it when I bring the camera under the car.

My friend said since the fluid is dirty in such a short time that Its looking like my tranny is on the way out.

I still have powertrain warranty. So if somethings wrong it can be covered. what do you guys think?

I think you should take it in to the dealer and have the noise documented. If they do nothing now, it'll at least be documented, which could help with a possible replacement or repair even after the warranty expires. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful than that. GL, bud

It would be good if you could listen to another one. My guess is that it increases line pressure in manumatic mode and what you are hearing is the pump. But have the dealer check it out. They may charge you a diag fee.

^ The noise is a on and off thing some times it does it sometimes it does not. I know the sound is not normal as I have asked other people and they do not hear it.

I also asked an Infiniti Tech what happens when I move into manual mode and they said, All you do is control when the solenoids change gears. There is no knowledge of increase line pressure or anything like that.

Any comments on what may cause the fluid to be light brown after 12k miles?

Is the fluid dirty as in "there's stuff floating in it", or is it extremely dark? Does it smell burnt? Any of these would typically indicate a serious problem in the near future.

A light brown color may not mean anything at all. The red color is just a dye, and sometimes the dye fades. Some fluids and dyes are more subject to this than others.

Sending some transmission fluid to a lab for analysis could be helpful too.

The ATF was cooked.

The real question is, did the dealer 'really' do a flush or just charge you for one?

Go to an different shop, have the ATF changed again, install an inline filter, and keep driving.

Take it to the dealer first, and ask them if they put in the correct fluid, with the right spec.
Then, ask them why the transmission still is making this kind of noise.
If another OC doesn't make the sound go away, demand that they change the transmission.

OTOH, if they change the oil and the noise goes away, I would be worried if any hidden damage have taken place.
I would start using an additive, to prolong the life of the transmission, and one candidate that has been discussed here, is zMax.

Hmmm I would get the fluid level to the correct range first. Just pump some out with a cheap hand pump and clear hose.

My Chrysler's 42re was 1/2 qt overfilled and it caused a hard 1-2 shift. Smooth now.

Well the tech showed me the old fluid, though I did not see them physically changing out the fluid, so they could of showed me someone elses fluid but I doubt it.

And apparently the dealer I had it done did not put it in my car's history. hmmm

I think the dealer I am going to on thursday might want to do the 3-4 quart drain and fill. I am going to bring my Blackstone labs container, so I could get a sample of the drained fluid, if they do that.

If they dont do anything ill get a sample of my fluid and send it off any how.
We will see what Thursday brings.
