Train On Your Property?

I always thought that I would never buy a piece of property with a train running through it.
It just seemed like it would not be a wise thing to do. As a kid I wasn't into them like most were. About three months ago I did buy a property with the B&O railroad running through the back of it and when I mow the area I stop and watch the train and I am really enjoying it. Weird but it is very interesting. Train cargo varies daily and so does the speed. I think I could get into the train hobby now...lol..

Then I don't think I'd want to have a property off the Interstate. Well again I guess I was wrong because the other end of the property is off I95. And it is far enough away that all your hear is this gentle woosh sound that is actually very tranquil. Anybody else here live near a train track or Interstate???? Do you like it??
 
Drill through your basement floor and you might get all the free natural gas you could ever want, and then some!

Family has a nice piece that has rails on the north side. In CRP and is pretty good hunting with a pond and lake on the south side.
 
A train runs across the property adjacent to mine; train is loaded with waving leaf peepers, small children, and occasionally Santa Claus.

I get steam huff and puff, ringing bell and track clatter.

The house my Dad has is next to the tracks. I've always enjoyed that about it, even with the noise. (there's a crossing right there too). The coolest part is the old photos he has of the house BEFORE the tracks were put in in the 1800's.

I prefer the trains to car/truck noises. Even with the weird stuff they haul on the tracks. I see lots of corn syrup, and odd equipment parts.

No I'm an amateur but learning. Yesterday one was at walking speed. Covered cars about 100 or so. I don't live there but go a few days a week to mow and trim etc.

30 meters away from Highway 401, an 8 lane expressway.
25 meters from CP Rail subdivision.
Have worked for the railway, not a big fan. I mean, they're cool but so are a lot of other things.
I just don't fully get 'foamers'

Correct, outside of Elkton, MD. Near route 40 and 213.
It is actually a lot in a development. But its the front lot and weirdly 22 acres amongst small 1 acre lots.
 
Lived a few hundred meters from a train track and won't do it again. As a light sleeper, being woken up by a train horn multiple times each night is not my thing.

I know Elkton! The train that goes through Newark moves fast and is long. Much less traffic these days since the Chrysler plant got torn down... The number of car carriers and supply trains that used to come through for that was a lot.

Do you have the freight line or Amtrak?

Freight line. Yes you are right GM and Chrysler both went belly up. GM was the boxwood plant. 273 would be bumper to bumper here in farm country way back in the 70's even. I live at Fairhill eight miles out of the U of D...
I go to Newark, Elkton, NE., Oxford daily.
 
I lived on a big hill 1/2 a mile from the Susquehanna river and the tracks running alongside the river bank. Summer nights the distant train sounds were relaxing.

Would not like train on my homestead though...the news tape of the burning oil, propane and chemicals from derailments are not so romantic!
