I've considered a used Dart as my next daily driver. It's a big if they get the gremlins worked out.

I think they are good looking cars. Don't know if I'm ready to own a FCA car.

+1. Id be concerned mainly about the lack of utility of the veloster for the long run... Other than horrid headlights, I found the Dart to be a great rental car, and Im sure it was a great DD.

Based on what he wrote in this thread, the car had issues, so that's why he got rid of it. That was not easy to predict at the time he bought it, although being a first year model, he should have been cautious. Some people also automatically assume that anything coming out of FCA can't possibly be reliable.

Maybe he should have assumed that as well.

According to TrueDelta, the number of issues with 2013 Dart is very high.

I just rented one this past week. I liked it a bit better than Chevy Cruze. Headlights seemed OK.

One small issue I noticed was that after driving on the hwy straight without having to give any steering input for a few seconds, and then having to give steering input, there was some strange feedback - a bit of resistance and then some weird nudge/shake. Does this car have electric steering? Maybe that is what I was experiencing in action. Although our Q5 also has electric steering and I don't notice anything like this.

If OP buys a new car why do people have to poo-poo his decision?
Same goes for when a BITOG member buys a new car and finances it for 6 years at 0% APR ?
 
I had a rental Dart and it drove nicer than the 2016 Accord and 2016 Elantra. Other than minor wind noise from mirrors at 90 MPH on Nevada highway, the Dart is a nice driving car.

Is NickR the guy making videos of WOT acceleration of his Cruze. I remember those videos of 0-60 runs.

it's a fault with the electric steering. The torque sensor for the steering wheel to be precise. We've had this issue with some Hyundais aswell.

Because some people on here don't want anyone to have any fun, when they aren't having any fun.

I'm sure if I were to have done a full write up on here when I picked up my custom ordered 2015 Cayman last year, someone would have told me I should have bought a different car, or that my car can't haul lumber as easily as their 15 year old pickup truck can.

The number of issues really wasn't too much of an issue as much as it was a dealer issue. Recalls by numerous dealers from texas to florida was horribly executed.
Normal Stealership [censored] though, My Dart was an SXT with Rallye options added (Custom order by an old man in the retirement community next to the dealer in florida, he died and they sold it as he had ordered it) ANYWAY, I was tired of going to a dealer in whatever state, having them replace a part with a BASE model part (when I paid more $$ for NON Base model [censored]) and telling me and writing it up as they used the higher end part

As a dealer, it makes sense if youre a POS, Corporate reimburses your parts used in recall. Replace it with the cheap base model part, write it up as a higher trim part, and you get reimbursed the higher price and make $$ since you used the cheap part.

The dealer I bought the Veloster is a Ford-VW-Hyundai-Mitsubishi dealer, separate lots all connected in the same area, they were no nonsense. the Veloster cost MORE than the Dart, Put the SAME amount down on it, my credit score has actually dropped since I bought the Dart, and my payments are only 380$ a month versus 405$ a month.

I get everything basic, the only thing I purchase is GAP insurance, and that was included in both vehicles.

Anyway, I do miss the Dodge, the memories I had with it, every scratch, stain, ding all had a story.
Time to let Danae go, and make memories with the Velosteraptor!

My car had Metal Racing Pedals as an option, was an extra 300$, the gas pedal was recalled, I get into the car afterwards to Plastic Black Gas Pedals. Service papers say upgraded pedals, etc.
Alpine speakers go out? took off the door panel after warranty covered the replacement, to Basic speakers with a brace to fit in the bigger slot.

I just felt as if I was spending more, for them to convert it to Base Model.

Id complain, and of course theyre right, I'm wrong, and if I want to pursue it anymore I will have to get a lawyer which I did talk to, and that wouldn't be Guaranteed since they Wrote it as a one for one swap, id have to prove THEY did that, and I didn't do it and blame it on them.

Capitalism eh?

You're not saving $25 a month. You extended yourself on a new 5 year loan, versus having a 2/5 paid off loan (or whatever the exact amounts are).

When you pay the payment game (ie "what can you afford a month"), that's salesman talk for cha-ching.

You have the TSP available, right? (federal retirement plan) No matter what your car payments are, try to contribute to that as much as possible. It will make you rich later in life. If they offer a match on contributions, that is literally free money, so be sure to contribute enough to get that match.

I always liked a small hatchback, so enjoy the new ride (and pay it off this time)
 
Dealership would just say they made good on their obligation to replace recalled part(s) on Dart with 'better redesigned parts' even though they were for a base model Dart.

How many years are you financing the Veloster ?

That's messed up. I'd be furious.
 
Wasn't even the Pedal, it was one of those "Your car was made within the hours, seconds, days, minutes, of the model year, 300 were made during that time, there is an issue with the gas pedal SENSOR"

the SENSOR, not even the PEDAL.

Speakers weren't recalled. I had passengers go out, "fixed" by dealer under warranty in florida. Had my driver side go out "Fixed" by a local dodge dealer here. had my back driver side passenger speaker go out "Fixed" by a dealer in Austin.

Tinkering around, I took off one and noticed it wasn't alpine. took off others and realized the only "premium" speaker left was the one NOBODY had fixed.

Anyway. Live and you learn

Congrats! My sister has a Veloster Turbo R-spec 6 speed. Is your car the new dual clutch automatic??


A couple things I've learned about this car so far... Use Hyundai filters. There was actually a TSB sent out about using only the oem filters or it could cause problems (I think oil pressure). Not a big deal as you can find the OEM filters fairly cheap, I think I got 6 for $30 online.

For oil people are all over the place online. The dealer seemed to be changing it with "conventional", and was going to charge over $100 for a synthetic change. I changed the oil with Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 first, then this run its using Pennzoil platinum 5w30 (should meet Hyundais requirements). At 4,000 miles I am going to send the oil off to get tested. The book states 5,000 mile OCIs, or 3,000 for "severe use". Well, if you read what qualify s for severe use, its basically everything. Some early models had issues that may have been related to spark plugs, injectors, fuel pumps, or oil. Some one I work with had to have his turbo replaced (my thinking was hard driving, poor oil, and too long on it).

And lastly, when you do change the oil, a fluid extractor helps. I say this because if you use ramps, the oil drain port is on the FRONT of the pan. Last time I pulled another roughly 3/4s of a quart out using my fluid extractor. I think this could really help in the life of the engine/turbo as your not keeping old, contaminated oil in there after a change.
