Naw...I'm really looking forward to the major lifestyle change. Been planning this for several years by getting debt free and saving money. Two of our three kids are grown and gone and the last one is in high school.
Now I have a follow up question. I have used Castrol GTX 5w30 for many years with 5k OCI's but am considering Mobil 1 5w30 due mainly to improved cold temp flow. Could I safely go with 10k OCI's without bothering with used oil analysis?
My brother lives in VT, when he unloaded his last vehicle (AWD) he went to just FWD as he said that is all he needed and has not had any problems. Did I miss something, your vehicle is 2WD but is it front or rear. If the front absolutely no problem driving in VT,(they actually know how to plow and take care of the snow/ice problems up there) and if RWD well, I think you can still manage it. Why trade a perfectly good vehicle for maybe a dozen snows a year and more insurance, taxes etc. Like buying a truck when you actually only need that bed in back twice a year but you buy it anyway.
Here's the thing about Vermont: Every intersection involves a short, steep, 50 foot long hill on one tangent or another. If you cease motion and are pointing up, RWD is kind of a pain. All the nice property with nice views have a lengthy, treacherous driveway that's your responsibility. Locals have a sense of humor about developing some real crazy hillsides. When you house shop note your realtor drives some SUV.
Also all the good shortcuts go right over the mountains. They have lots of flat curvy roads in valleys following the river flood plains. Sometimes you can get by with 2wd if you plan your route.
If you're retired you can wait for the road crews.
4WD is helpful but so are narrow (snow) tires that dig down to pavement. The newest subarus follow the fad of low profile, wide wheels. Either find some steel 15 inchers that fit, and keep seperate snows (good idea) or run a beater explorer/cherokee/blazer with tall tires. Ground clearance counts too and mid-size SUVS have it in spades. You can get into situations where you're driving fine and your floor pan gets snow packed under it... then you're stuck!
That all said, I get by just fine 100 miles to the east with FWD and snows, because I don't have all those uphill starts.

You could always move to Truckee California near the north end of Lake Tahoe. It has a lot more snow than Toronto.

I have to confess, I'm the same way. I like winter, even on the coldest days.
But, more than that, I like the 'change of seasons' - moving from one to the other. Warm summer turns into cool air and bright leaves, turns into bright snow, and back into warm, wet spring...always something new happening!

In VT the roads can get real rough. FWD is not really a problem coupled to decent in snow all-seasons >6/32" tread or winter tires. Obviously 4wd, AWD is the best with good tires.
2wd is not great. The worse part is you will get bottom dollar as in New England on a SUV with 2wd is useful as [censored] on a bull. Sell it at home where no one cares or knows what 4wd is.
