Toyota unveils redesigned Corolla

I think the designers at Toyota needs to be hit on the head. Although it looks a lot better than the current Corolla, the new one still doesn't look good. It actually looks really close to the Elantra. Anybody thinks so or is it just me?

I agree with you. On top of that, why don't they get their act together and make a sports coupe/car? Toyota is becoming so boring.

...becoming so boring? Man, where have you been?

They've built their company on boring, which is what a lot of folks desire evidently. They equate excitement in a car to bad aftershock things - VD, pregnancy, etc.

They built their company on quality. I used to really like the looks of many of their cars. I like the Camry body style. I just think they need a sports car and need to be a bit less conservative in the design of some of their vehicles.

Looks like a Yaris to me.

If the Corolla "Type S" came with half as many doors, an upgraded suspension, and a supercharger, they'd be in business.

Just a slightly off-topic note, yesterday Toyota celebrated 50 years in the US:

October 31, 1957

That new Matrix looks horrible -- like a terrible offspring of a FIT bred with an Aerio Wagon (or something?).

I don't see the Elantra in the Corolla. It just looks like a smaller Camry, or larger Yaris.

Interesting that one can order a "big block" version...the 2.4 is much motor for a 2500lb car...I wonder how the 1ZZ-FE has changed in this version?...I must say the big motor does not interest me because it drops fuel mileage down to Camry levels...but if I travelled on the Interstates regularly I might consider this motor...

Ha ha couldn't agree more. Expect exciting from Totota is like expect Britney Spears to become world chess champion. It'n not what it's all about. Toyota has/had some exciting cars but most of their general mainstream production cars as boring as sitting in DMV waiting line.

Altough I agree every car should be exciting and has some spice to it. Well I guess I'm in minority on this one and most people don't care, so thats what we get. Boring, reliable means of transportation from A to B. Car manufacturers using this, why bother building fun car if we can get away with boring machines, right? Thank ---- for BMW.

Frankly I don't even understand why anybody would bother buying Corolla if You can get 2.5i Subaru Impreza for slightly more. You will get more powerfull engine, all posiblle active and passive safety features including standart AWD, great suspension, outstanding safety and good reliability. The only positives of Corolla would be better fuel ecnonomy, slightly lower price and probably better long term reliability. Still for car enthusiast on the budget the choice is obvious.

"only" lol. Basically you are saying it is a better, more practical vehicle.

Basically what i'm saying is that Toyota Corolla is a P O S car and it's inferior to basic Subaru Impreza. But from 100 years old grandma who knows or cares nothing about cars, yes it is better car. From mine standpoint it's not worth a single look. But I guess you just crave boringness and mediocre driving, enjoy that new Corolla

I don't know why you're all carrying on like this. The Corolla hasn't been 'exciting' since 1986. That's more than 20 years ago. Toyota has taken the position that something 'exciting' is also something that can get stale and overdone. And also that they now have two other arms that try to be exciting: Lexus and Scion.

Those aren't very exciting either. Toyota is just not that good at exciting, it's not their territory.
