Is anyone familiar with this? I want to replace the SLT solenoid and I'm wondering if I have to drop the valve body once I remove my transmission pan.

I've looked at videos and I'm wondering if you guys have first hand experience. It's a very popular transmission... and I just want to have my ducks in a row before I start tearing into it.

Just an update to the thread, I replaced the solenoid and I test the old one. It still works. Any other ideas as to where I should go? I still have the P0741 code referencing the TCC solenoid.

Maybe I'm thinking electrical issue right now

Found this in the troubleshooter for possible causes:

Shift solenoid SL is stuck in "on" or "off" position
Lockup clutch solenoid has failed
Valve body is blocked or stuck
Shift solenoid SL has failed (mechanical fault)

Generally, but not always, a performance code (your P0741) is mechanical. If there were circuit related issues, many times, you'll have a code specific to that circuit. Of course, these are generalizations and could very easily be different in your case.

If you need additional info or schematics, shoot me a message and I'll see what I can get for you.

Also, what is the fluid level and condition? I just finished a 2013 Malibu up that the dealer, an indy and a trans shop said was a bad trans- had scads of performance related codes and more often than not didn't shift from 1st or 2nd. Guess what? Was 3.5 quarts low on ATF and none of the aforementioned people caught it. Unfortunately the trans is now toast- but at least it would shift reliably, but had one heck of a 4-5 shift flare.

On the U241, I've seen two cases where the torque converter/pump bushing seized to the snout of the converter and chewed metal out of the pump and through the whole trans. Both of those however had an accompanying leak at the front seal. The big clue that something wasn't right was that even after replacing several quarts of fluid, it still had a grey caste to it. Probably not your problem, but thought I'd pass it on.

I've owned the car since new and I've religiously drain and filled the transmission at 15k intervals starting at 30k. Just recently, I replaced this solenoid. Toyota OEM 35240 21010. I checked the resistance of the old one and it was within specifications.

I applied a voltage to it and it still clicks. It could possibly be another solenoid or might be the valve body itself. I didn't remove the valve body. I did, however remove the transmission filter to check and reused the same one.
