Toyota Filter vs Denso First Time Fit

So, as I understand it the only difference between the Denso First Time Fit filters and the Toyota filter is that the Denso-branded model has a silicon ADBV.

I was thinking of picking up a case, and my local dealer said they would match (basically) the online dealers' price of $48/10 filters (after tax).

Or, for just under $47, I can get the Denso version with the silicon ADBV from Rock Auto.

The only reason I'm weighing the options is that I kind of prefer to just buy locally when I can. I like to support local business, and it's just typically easier.

So, should I order the Denso, or just stick with Toyota filters?

The reason I figured I'd just stick with the Toyota filters is that they seem well constructed. They provide absolutely no issues with my truck (though neither did the one Pure 1 and Wix I had on it), and they have almost twice the filtering media (sq in) as most of the competitors. They are also relatively inexpensive. I was going to pick up some Pure One's, as Purolator specs the same filter for my car and my truck, but they were like $8/each (about the same as the Fram Xtended Guard or whatever that is).

Stealership won't get broke because of $48. They will rip off last penny from you If they will have a chance. I would order from rockaauto. There is 5% coupon code in promo part of forum. Plus you are getting little better/equal filter for less. So why not?

I've been using DENSO 150-1010 First Time Fit filters for a few years now and never had a problem of any kind. The quality and construction is top notch. Here's my thread where I cut a couple open.

yeah and on rock auto Tough guard fram for my car is 6.80. add them to ypur order if they ship from same warehouse(so you not going to pay extra shipping) use rebate and get 2 nice filters for 80 cents each.

The price I quoted for Rock Auto includes shipping if I remember correctly.

I didn't know about the discount code, that helps.

This dealer is actually pretty good. They used to have a couple [expletive deleted]'s working in the parts department, but they got rid of them and the guys there are actually pretty good. One of them there has helped me a lot. The service department isn't that bad either, other than I've been trying to get a certain TSB done (my truck exhibits the problem) and I haven't been able to do so (though they have looked at it a lot).

I'll probably just order the better ones, the 5% coupon will help some too!

Oddly, Denso does not spec the same filter for both our cars. The filter for the truck is longer though, so I think maybe it's a clearance issue. They are cheap enough, I might order them for the car too though.

My filter is located on top in front part of engine, so i can use oversize filters.(I got 4 long Pure1 to use with rebate).Threads might be different. While responding you I ordered 9 different filters from rock auto. Came out 39.74 including delivery. 2 Tough Guard, 4 Bosch 3330 and 5 autolite (same as Wix inside, but cheap ), So after rebates: fram -12, Bosch -8. Makes it 2.19 per filter. For pretty good filters.

The Denso brand that I used to crossover/replace a Toyota 90915-YZZD1 was built a lot differently inside. The Denso had conventional metal endcaps rather than fused ends on the media pleats. Oddly, the picture on the Denso box showed a filter cutaway with no endcaps, like the Toyota filter.

Interesting that the filter internals are different. I use the 90915-YZZD3, which Denso calls for a 150-1003. I wonder if these have metal end caps, or are the open design?

I was under the impression the 150-1003 is identical to the 90915-TZZD3, but who knows.

Is the YZZD1 the small filter, for like the 4cyl Tacoma? If so, the Toyota ones are Purolator, not Denso.

Strange the box picture showed the newer style endcapless design.
Ya, the YZZD1 is for the 2.7 liter Tacoma 4 banger. It's a little shorter filter I beleive. I think they are otherwise similar.
The YZZD3 is used on the 6 cylinder Tacoma, I think. Aftermarkets spec the same filter number for both engines though. eg, the Wix filter number is the same for the 4 and 6 cylinder.
