Finally tackled the noisy intake cam phasor in the 1AR-FE 2.7L in the 2012 Sienna.

Here's a reference BITOG thread about the issue
Here's the UOA on this Sienna before changing the gear

Pulled off the cam bearing holder thingy to get to the oil intake filter, which turned out to not be clogged at all

I disassembled the old gear and couldn't find anything broken or obvious that would cause the startup rattle. Possible the lock pin was sticky or more worn than I'm able to tell visually / manually. Regardless, the startup rattle is gone so go team!

Did you replace those green gaskets (Camshaft Bearing Cap Oil Hole) too?

Oh yeah, those were leftover from when I changed the valve cover gasket a few years ago. It got two new ones, another o-ring, and a fresh OEM valve cover gasket.

Great pics. (I may be misremembering but I thought I saw a vid where a guy fixed the problem by stretching a spring somewhere in that set up. Spring had gotten too weak. Like I said i may be misremembering)

When I disassembled the old phasor I saw there was a small compression spring behind the lock pin. Perhaps that could be stiffened up somehow. I don't know if that would address the problem, but it's an interesting idea.
