Top Rated Used Car!

Buy her the best, cleanest used Subaru you can find, a Legacy, Impreza or Forester: the AWD will more than make up for any gas mileage factors the 1st winter (in Ilinois), and it will still be giving you great service 10 years from now.

These are truly the sleepers as far as used cars are concerned, IMHO.

Cheers!

After looking at used cars for the better part of two weeks on the net (No pressure, no salesman, no 100 phone calls) I have decided to wait it out.

We don't "need" a new car right now since we still have the cavalier and I am going to try to wait it out this summer without A/C! It has been a very cool summer here is Chicago (4th of july was 71 degrees!)

I just got discouraged that all fuel efficient cars are about way overpriced. I did look at some Honda Civics and they want a mint for them. 2006 with 100k and people are looking for $12-14K! Brand new they are only 20!

Hopefully the cavalier will last another fall and winter and with the savings we can buy new in the spring. I will still look, and if that great deal comes up I will pounce.

It seems that with the high price of gas, everyone believes a 30mpg car is worth it's weight in gold! I have even seen some late 90's corollas with over 200,000 miles and the owners are looking for $5,000!

WN1998. I think you made the best choice. stay with what you have, limit driving, drive slower, tune up, and maintain your fleet of cars. Being a GM fan, I was going to make some recommendations. I like the HHR with the 2.2 or the 2.4L Ecotech 4 cylinder engine and either a 5 speed manual or an auto trans. I would also ditto the Pontiac Vibe as an excellent buy in a Toy Matrix with a discount.

Bafflingly (if that's a word), the Smart is only good for 33 city, 41 highway, per the EPA, 2008 figures. Given it's micro size, and that it only holds two humans, it ought to be doing far, far better. Unless you never, ever, ever need the back seat, I'd go for the Corolla. Almost as good mpgs, and five seating positions. If you really want to go for it, do the Prius instead. Much better mpgs, city and highway, five seats, and a vast 16 cubic feet of cargo space. Personally, I don't see a purpose for the Smart, except perhaps as a four-wheeled replacement for a motorcycle. Of course, that's just me.

they're asking up to $31,00 for used PRIUS , not worth it . Best value would be a 2008 5 speed manual YARIS L.B. ($13,100 ) , if you can find one . That does just as well / better on gas as the SMART CAR and has better ride and is 1/2 the price of used / new bloated PRIUS , even if pay full price for the YARIS . With prices of PRIUS these days , you'll be upside down . Would think when market gets flooded with more HYBRIDS ( plug in or not ) the value will go down , will pay more interest on loan that takes longer to pay off , plus the inflated price you pay these days .

I track the milage on my cavalier and even with 200k on it, I am still getting an average of 28 mpg which is 75% stop and go city driving.

I personally think the smart cars look horrible and the mileage is not worth the double takes and all of the smart a$$ remarks I would get from friends and family!

AC is overrated :)

The AC in my 1992 Honda does not work. I tried one of those recharge kits, and it actually blew cold air for a bit. Then I shut the engine off. I could actually hear the R134a hissing out. The whole charge was gone is less than a minute.

Now I just earplugs in my car, for highway travel...

Did you use the sealer kit?
