Top 10 Best Auto Makers

I think the OP's list is one about favorite brands, not really best auto makers, because that is kind of impossible to decide.

In my experience some of the "top" brands in the recent past like Toyota and Honda are getting slightly worse in quality while other brands like GM and Chrysler are "trying" to get better. This isn't to say Honda and Toyota are junk, just that like all things across the board they have cheapened a bit.

I would say Honda is pretty close to the top right now. Toyota would be second. I have seen some pretty significant problems with Toyotas that Toyota motor co. denied existed or refused to fix. I know a few Toyota owners who bought one thinking they were bullet-proof and won't be buying one again. Mainly because of severe oil consumption problems on almost brand new vehicles.

With that said I don't think any one brand can be the best. Every single one of them produces good and bad vehicles, it is all about what you look for in a vehicle and your perspective. Sometimes the good versus the bad can even get down to one model being reliable with one power train, and an absolute nightmare with another power train. I know a guy who only buys Mercedes-Benz because every other brand is "cheaply made" in his opinion. He also thinks the high maintenance costs are acceptable where someone else may think replacing tires every 20k miles is insane. It's all perspective, and why there are so many different brands out there.

I didn't have any brand lasted more than 13k miles on the rear of S2000. The rear tire OEM Bridgestone RE050 lasted 8k miles, the front was a little longer at 13k miles.

The OEM Goodyear Eagle F1 of my E430 lasted a whooping 14k miles, the OM front pad gone in 10k miles.

The list would be different depending on a specific time period

Dude! Jeep and Range Rover are dead last in terms of problems per 100 vehicles on many reliability reports. Mini, BMW and Fiat are not far behind. Your list reads like the worst of the worst LOL.

Yes, there are a lot of low-reliability and high cost-of-repair OEMs on that list. Volvo belongs there, Audi gets a provisional OK, BMW belongs there only if you never buy a used one; M-B if you really love the cars but high cost to own (all the German brands have the industry's highest parts costs); the rest is a laundry list of the cars to avoid, actually. Mini. Jeep and Range Rover are amongst the least reliable vehicles you can buy, period.

For me it's more use vehicle specific not car maker. It's seems like every maker has one or more winners in their lineup. One maker that is so polarizing in winners and real losers is fiat Chrysler.

I love the vw golf sportwagen becuase it's a unique decent offering. The balance of the line no way I'd own a vw given competition.

I agree. These lists should be called favorite brands.

BINGO!

Why people choose to be brand loyal and even go as far as vigorously defend their chosen brand on the internet and various forums is simply beyond me. If faceless corporations that produce inanimate objects mean that much to someone, then I would question their sanity and of course dismiss their opinions entirely.

There are many great models available from various auto makers.

I simply buy what I like; my priorities happen to line up best with the products of just a few companies- but I'm more than willing to look at other brands. Before I made my last purchase I looked at Chevrolet(Camaro SS 1LE), Dodge(Challenger SRT8), Ford(Mustang GT Performance Pkg.), Lotus(Elise), Porsche(Cayman S), Subaru(WRX STI), and VW(Golf R). No bad choices in the bunch.

Tell me that Fiat-Chrysler has a car with MSRP below $25k(not Jeep nor SUV/CUV) that is better than anyone else. Better here means reliable, affordable, resale value and fun to drive.

There are some manufactures I avoid, Fiat-Chrysler is 1 of them.

Most manufactures have some good vehicles and some not so good. I would pick the vehicle itself rather than manufacture.

Easy, Grand Caravan. There is literally no other minivan that will match its reliability, affordability and capability.

I would put Hynday and Kia at the worst IMO, heres my list.
Honda
Ford
Toyota
Nissan
Chevy
Volvo
Mazda
Jeep
Mercedes
BMW

Top 10 Auto Manufacturers....In YOUR OPINION should be the name of this thread.

Everyone puts their own vehicles makes in the top 4 or 5.

If I was to make a list....Toyota wouldn't be on it, I have one & it's a POS....See, It's not hard to admit you made a bad car buying decision.....
