So tomorrow I have up to 6 lipomas (fatty bumps that look worse than they are, but not good for working with kids) cut out of my arms. Clown surgeon is feeling the " production pressure" of modern health care only scheduled 1 hour to do 6. But anyways... Any tips? Should I shave my arms at home (since they only shave small areas worth) to avoid tape bandage sticking? Any recovery tips? Vitamins, salves? Showering tips?

5 on left arm and 1 on right. All will be about 1 inch sewn cuts.

No advice except to think positive and you will get better.
I work in healthcare and some procedures are surprisingly short in duration.

Some open heart cases I've seen last 7-8 hours.

Just shave the areas yourself, prepare for minimal tenderness and some motrin, and you will recover in a few days nicely as I did after my lipoma removals.

Get the golf clubs clean tonite and you will not have to do it tomorrow before you hit the course

As someone who practically lived in hospitals and Dr. offices this time last year I can say anesthesia is fantastic and you have nothing to fear. I feared my first surgery but in complete honesty the waiting in the hospital gown on the bed prior to surgery was the worst part. Once they give you the sedative and wheel you into to the operating room you don't care. Then they give you the real stuff and you're out like a light.

They also have a new product to market which is a numbing agent. During my surgery they injected me with it and the surgery site was completely pain free for 3+ days. I'm not sure what they call it but I'm sure it's common now.

Get plenty of rest and relax. Keep the surgery sites clean and dry. Follow all directions the doctors give you. They should give you a print-out sheet of how to care for your wounds. DO NOT hesitate to call if you're concerned about your healing or have lots of pain. Take the pain medicine, they prescribe it for a reason. Best of luck.

3days pain free wow.

I'm not going user general anesthesia. Just lidocaine injections. So I get to endure probably 18of those. Doc said ,". Well have to watch our lidocaine limit."

Jesu cristo, this guy needs some bedside manner.

I have had some skin surgery with local anesthetic. For what it's worth I did not feel a single thing except some pressure. By the way, surgeons generally have terrible bedside manner. The important thing though is that they're good with their instruments

Just be clean before you go in. They will clean the areas with a chlorhexidine product or betadine. A lot a places are not using betadine anymore.

If the incisions are small, he might use a subcutaneous suture that dissolves and dermabond skin glue on top.

If he uses dermabond skin glue, do not use any creams or ointments as it may cause the glue to release too early.

I do like vitamin c for skin healing. I burned my arm on a hot air compressor tube, a physician recommended i take 1000mg P.O. until it healed. It seemed to heal better after i started the vitamin c.

Make sure you have what you need at home in terms of any required supplies before you go to the surgery. Try to get good nights sleep and relax tomorrow. But also stay vigilant during the procedure. Ask questions and voice any concerns that you have before, during, and after. Make sure they take the time give you clear after care instructions. And don't hesitate to call the doctor if something seems wrong or feels like it is getting worse instead of better.

I had to shave my own [redacted] when I got my [redacted] snipped. And you're complaining about arm hair?

Are you worried about scarring? Try some cocoa butter everyday for a few months. My wife used that after she had some minor surgery. She smelled like a cookie for months.

The skin is weak for a few months afterwards. Trust me on this. I ripped my knee open after some minor surgery.

Yeah, shave yourself. Those bandage adhesive is mighty powerful on those arm hairs.

You'll be fine! They do this kind of stuff every day.

Removal of lipomas is a very minor procedure.

Sleep well and try not to worry. No need to shave. If the surgeon wants an area shaved he/she will shave it. Keep the incision dry for 48 hours.

And that's about it.

If you shave the areas use an electric shaver, not a blade. You do not want to nick the skin and start any kind of infection.

Keep all sites dry. It is best to sponge bath until the sites are completely healed (wash with a wash cloth, instead of getting under a shower).

If they remove the stitches ask them to put steri strips on. And if they do keep them dry. If steri strips get wet even once they will fall off.

I had one of those removed from my arm 5 years ago.
Nothing to worry about. Small incision, pull the thing out, and suture. (Surgeon is a top-notch cosmetic surgeon, who discouraged me from doing anything about other, smaller ones.)

It took about 10 minutes, if I recall, maybe 15. List price was around $1300, actual price $800 and change.

Maybe ask for something that will help with the itching of the sutures, as they heal.

I had 1 lump removed from my back, It wasn't anything bad to have done or the healingprocess.. I was thinking about huffing some nitrous from canned whip cream and having my wife cut it out but I went to the derm instead.
